Over the weekend, the Beefier Stall at the Grid played host to the pop-up of Bored and Hungry. This is a cryptocurrency themed Burger restaurant in LA. This is the first restaurant concept of Food Fighters Universe, the world's first NFT restaurant group of restaurateur, Andrew Nguyen. Their mission is to help out chefs and restaurants in distress at this time. Recently, B and H was named "Best Burger" by Good Morning America. Is it really that good? The Trill Burger of Bored and Hungry is a double patty smashedburger with cheese and bacon. It's good, maybe a bit better than Shake Shack but not as good as Five Guys. In the local burger scene, it is very similar to the smashedburgers of Burger Geek in Molito or the now defunct Buns N Bros at Ayala North Exchange before. The great thing going with smashedburgers is the crispy crust at the edges of the burger which differentiates it from regular grilled patties. At last weekend's pop-up, the Trill Burgers were offered at P565 a la carte and P765 as a meal with fries and drink. Now, their fries are really good. Better than all local fries, better even than some specialty shops. If you have tasted duckfat fries, it tastes and cracks similarly. We also ordered from Gochu-gang, the Korean themed stall of the Tasteless Group. We ordered the Samgyup Pork with Kimchi Rice, Beef Bulgogi with Kimchi Rice, Kimchi Pancakes and the Snow Cheese Boneless Chicken. When you add kimchi to anything it just amps up the flavor experience plus kimchi has health benefits because it has antioxidants and is a good source of vitamins A and C. The Grid Market has a wonderful array of food choices that each visit could be a virtual travel around the world.

A high end market place type food hall that is the go to place right now. My first impression was a wow with the ambiance and the varied cuisine choices. My kids and I then went around to select their meal. My daughter went with the Thai stall and ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai. My son went for Japanese and their Tonkatsu Ramen. I went for the Angus Belly Lechon. First off, I found the prices to be a bit high for the concept especially for the added 6% service charge for the common service. There was no one to serve water when we sat. I guess they push you to order drinks. And also no one to clear your dishes after you finish. Second, when you get your food, you start to question what you paid for. Average of about P500 per dish. Shrimp Pad Thai was just plain Jane and nothing special to go back for. It smelled too fishy in a wrong way and my daughter only ate half. It seemed to lack Nam Pla fish sauce, tamarind flavoring and shrimp head essence. Also no peanuts. Did not seem authentic. The Tonkatsu Ramen was so-so okay but if you compare it to established Ramen places it is a tad expensive. Their broth was rich and tasty with the noodle perfectly chewy. The egg was done well and the pork okay. The Angus belly was a big disappointment. The beef was pre-cut cut way too small to enjoy even with a mouthful and tasted like generic broiled beef. The only reason you know it is Angus is that it is tender not from any special taste. The eggplant with baba ganoush was the star of the dish. Their lechon sauces were okay and they go with brown rice. The white adobo sauce was a mayo-vinegar concoction. So mayo haters beware. But too much sidings and too little beef for the price. The Worksop cake place was the other star of this lunch. My kids had the brownies and I had the Manchego cheesecake. Perfection is all I can say. I may seem to be the only average reviewer but maybe I should have tried the tacos and the paella. There probably was a reason their lines were longer. Will update my review after I try them.

Venturing into Granivore at The Grid, my gastronomic sojourn unfolded with the promise of a delectable ensemble, featuring Chicken Satay as the protagonist and Adlai as the harmonious accompaniment, adorned with avocados and an oolong-infused boiled egg. Entrancing Orchestra of Tastes: The culinary overture commenced with the Chicken Satay — a medley of flavors that danced on the palate with an orchestrated balance. The overall flavor profile, while highly acceptable, resonated as a symphony of culinary finesse. However, the diminutive portion of chicken left a mellifluous note of disappointment, as the desire for more succulent meat surpassed the presence of chicken skin, which didn't quite hit the high notes. A Note on Protein Preferences: For those whose preferences sway toward a more substantial meat-to-skin ratio, the Chicken Satay might fall a tad short. A fervent desire for a heartier helping of meat was the only refrain in an otherwise harmonious melody of flavors. Yet, this culinary cadence may resonate differently with those who relish the unique texture and taste of chicken skin. Symphony of Sides: The supporting cast, featuring Adlai with avocados and an oolong-infused boiled egg, added layers to the culinary sonata. Avocados contributed a creamy texture, blending seamlessly with the oolong-kissed boiled egg, infusing an additional layer of complexity and depth.

I thought I understood the concept of this place but then I got confused. So it’s a highly stylized food court (please do not mistake that I am condescending; I do eat at food courts too), complete with a receptionist at the entrance. So I thought all you need to do was go to the stall/s that interest you then at the end of the meal, pay at the cashier on your way out. Alas you need to pay at the stall upon ordering and not all stalls will accept you credit card! The reason why I tried this place was because of Big Bird (yes that same food place that serves the best umami chicken- their place vanished already in Century Mall and Robinsons Ermita! I was expecting that they would also be serving the fantastic noodles here but all they have is their famous chicken… no worries as I miss the chicken already! This is one of the loneliest places I’ve had ever had a meal. Maybe because of the pandemic but still the vibe is not that sensational…even eating Bad Bird here was a lonely experience 😢

The Grid at Rockwell is supposed to make choosing a restaurant easier because they are all in one place. In reality, what's happening is the opposite because all the restaurants look so good, it's twice as hard to make a choice. Unless you pick one from each restaurant. Well in our case, not really from each restaurant. We ordered Lamb kebab from OK Bob, Combi charsiu and Lechon Macau dry noodles from White flower and Chicken katsu from Maisen. Of the three, you need to eat first the lechon Macau while it's hot then stir the dry noodles as it tends to get sticky. The lamb kebab was good even the basmati rice came complete with butter. As for the chicken katsu, it came with single serve rice, cabbage and miso soup only unlike in their standalone restaurant. Oh before I forget, please make sure you have a table first as this place gets packed quite quickly.

Second time: The friend boneless chicken with rice and side dishes from one of the korean booths is sulit for its price (350php) in this prime location. I just wish that the breading or coat of the friend chicken is not that thick. But the sauce (soy and truffle) is good! For the service in the food court, the staff is quick to clean up, there is a water station available, and the interior is generally clean and not smelly despite the crowd post-christmas day. I think what I can recommend is that they also provide an area or spots where solo diners can eat :) ——— I ordered a rice bowl and it tastes really good! I must say its a healthy option (has adlai, salad, and grilled meat).. I forgot the name of the store but you can check the picture I’ve attached with this review. I hope to try the ramen and oysters next time 🍴 - K
