We planned to have dinner around 7 PM, so we headed to S’maison at Conrad Hotel in Pasay. Upon arrival, we opted for a Spanish restaurant called Barcino. It was relatively empty, with only one other table occupied when we arrived. Despite the clean surroundings and pleasant ambiance, our seating area had a wobbly table and a broken footrest chair.
My companion ordered fresh watermelon juice, but the staff informed us that it wasn't available. We inquired about its unavailability, considering it was summer and watermelons were abundant in the market. The staff simply stated that it wasn't available and suggested fresh mango juice instead, and we agreed. I ordered tropical white sangria.
To our surprise, my tropical sangria arrived with a large dice of fresh watermelon in it, which left us puzzled about its earlier unavailability. Moving on, we ordered two pasta dishes, croquettes, and another appetizer that I can't recall the name of—a small shrimp dish flattened and fried to a crispy texture.
The food was delicious, although I was disappointed to learn that they didn't have Tabasco sauce, as I enjoy spicy condiments. However, they did offer fresh black pepper. Our dining experience was satisfactory, but there were a few areas for improvement. When we asked about bar snacks while waiting for our food, a female staff member informed us that they didn't serve them. However, to our surprise, complimentary toast bread was later served with our meals, which is exactly what we had inquired about earlier.
Additionally, our waiter failed to mention that the two pasta dishes we ordered had similar flavors and could have been shared. Though this was indicated on the menu, it would have been helpful for the waiter to remind us. Overall, our experience was average, with a rating of 4 out of 10. I value warm and helpful staff, along with good product knowledge. We may return, but perhaps to a different...
