Celebrating a special occasion with friends led us to Wong Place, a spot recommended by a high school buddy through his IG story. Eager to try it out, the restaurant lived up to expectations, offering a diverse range of dishes that pleased our palates.

We got the following:

  1. Pork & Shrimp Siomai with Tobiko (₱260) This was definitely juicy and has a suprisingly big chunk of shrimp inside which is a delight. The Tobiko added both visual appeal and a satisfying crunch.

  2. Salted Egg Taro Chips (₱250) Served as a light and crispy starter, generously coated in a not-too-overbearing salted egg sauce.

  3. Calamansi Chicken (₱400) While a bit too sour for my liking, proved crispy and juicy, providing a tangy complement to the overall feast.

  4. Black Pepper Wagyu Cubes (₱720) Offered a burst of umami with soft, fatty, and tender cubes, perfectly balanced by chewy mushrooms and crisp peppers.

  5. Pork Chop Fried Rice (₱430) This dish didn't stand out much; the pork chop lacked flavor, and the portion size was on the smaller side, and the rice is suitable for two people at most.

  6. Steak Fat Fried Rice (₱320) A substantial and hearty dish, perfect for sharing among 2 to 3 people, depending on their appetite.

  7. Sliced Beef & Century Egg Congee (₱360) Served in a beautiful ceramic pot, with thin, flavorful beef and a whole century egg adding creaminess, though a dash of soy sauce enhanced the flavor.

  8. Salted Egg Caramel Ice Cream (₱160) This dessert sparked some disagreement among our group. Not everyone was a fan of salted egg, although some enjoyed it. Regardless, the distinct taste of salted egg was unmistakable in the aftertaste, initially presenting a creamy caramel flavor.

  9. Fried Mantou with Pork Floss (₱240) The bread's interior was dense and milky, with edges that crisped up during frying. The melt-in-your-mouth pork floss added a delightful touch, enhancing the overall flavor of the dish.

  10. Thai Tea Ice Cream (₱160) A thoroughly enjoyable dessert, featuring the rich and sweet taste of Thai tea with subtle earthy tones from the mixed-in spices.

  11. Cold Soy Milk - Sweetened (₱120) Served in a tall glass, this smooth and creamy beverage offered a mild sweetness that was thoroughly enjoyed by my friend.

  12. Gulaman-flavored Soda (₱160) A personal favorite, I was drawn to this drink due to my love for Gulaman. The pairing with soda proved to be a dream come true. The sweetness of the Gulaman complemented the sourness of the soda, creating a well-balanced flavor when mixed together.

  13. Gulaman Soy Milk Latte (₱220) A creative take on the classic latte, this drink combined the flavor and bits of Gulaman with the creaminess of soy milk, blending well with the espresso for a unique and satisfying experience.

In summary, our experience at Wong Place was delightful, and we'd certainly return for more 'Wong Ones.' The well-lit ambiance and quirky decorations added to the enjoyment, despite the understaffing during our visit. Wong Place is a worthy choice for diverse and flavorful dishes, offering a lively atmosphere with amusing decor. Despite the understaffing, the service was efficient and didn't require much intervention from our end. Highly recommended for a fun dining experience...

I finally got to try the Wong Place after seeing their logo a hundred times in 7th Avenue. That giant white wall with their logo in the middle is like a marketing ad on its own. Anyway, the place is well decorated. We were fortunately enough to sit in some nice comfy sofa-type seats. As for the food, it’s pretty decent no-frills Chinese food. Food selection can be quite limited though so I recommend viewing the menu on-line first before dining in.

Sweet & Sour Pork - 4/5. My kid loves eating this! Good portion size for the price. I think they added some charred pineapples. All-in-all, this is a good dish.

Calamansi Chicken - 3.5/5. Honestly, I couldn’t distinguish the calamansi flavor nor I would not be confused if it was called Lemon Chicken instead. It’s pretty much similar to how they cooked their sweet and sour pork, but I wish it had more calamansi sauce.

Mapo Tofu - 3.5/5. Delicious and spicy, the their tofu is drenched in a sauce with authentic Szechuan peppers. Not much meat (wish there was more for texture); it’s mostly tofu and vegetables.

Stir-fried Kailan - 4/5. Tender yet crunchy. These vegetables were properly blanched before cooked.

Wong Fried Rice - 3/5. The Wong place’s take on Yang Chow Fried Rice. It’s typical egg fried rice but they changed the common topics of char siu and peas into chinese sausages and zucchini....

It’s pretty much similar to how they cooked their sweet and sour pork, but I wish it had more calamansi sauce. Mapo Tofu - 3.5/5. Delicious and spicy, the their tofu is drenched in a sauce with authentic Szechuan peppers. Not much meat (wish there was more for texture); it’s mostly tofu and vegetables. Stir-fried Kailan - 4/5. Tender yet crunchy. These vegetables were properly blanched before cooked. Wong Fried Rice - 3/5. The Wong place’s take on Yang Chow Fried Rice. It’s typical egg fried rice but they changed the common topics of char siu and peas into chinese sausages and zucchini. It’s a bit dry.
