Bar Neptun — Restaurant in Gdansk

Rude, Rude, Rude. We went here as it was recommended in Rick Steve’s’ Snapshot guide. We were the only people in the milk-bar. After humbly noting that we did not speak Polish, the attendant was haughty. Then when I asked if we were too early, he responded with my same words in perfect German and English that hr was sorry he did not understand. My autistic son was with us and he I sissy I wearing a mask. While we were looking at the items, this gentleman made a snide comment about the mask to the cashier. I speak English, German and Spanish unfortunately, I don’t understand Polish but I do understand rude. So we left There are plenty of other great eateries in Gdańsk with people who actually enjoy tourists. Across the street is a restaurant with a sign saying “please be Kind” I guess this fellow...

If you are unsure what to eat in Gdansk, Poland, checkout this milk bar facing the main street of the old town area. It's a self-service cafetaria right out of the post-Communist era. The decor is plain, the chairs and table are old but sturdy and the food is honest-to-goodness delicious.

Expect traditional home-style comfort food. It's what the locals eat everyday - mash potatoes, meat dumplings, red cabbage salads, hot soups etc. The choices are many and the portions are ample.

If you don't speak Polish, just select what the others are having. Confidently point at the food, place it on your tray and hurry along to the cashier counter. Cost of an average lunch?...

Żeby móc sprawiedliwe ocenić to miejsce trzeba przede wszystkim zrozumieć, że to nie jest poziom Ferrari, MB czy nawet VW... to jest Polski Fiat 126 restauracji... brzmi źle? Na pierwszy rzut oka nienajlepiej, a jednak miliony Polaków wyrosła na 126p i nawet wspomina go z nostalgią i łezka w oku. Ja wiem... Bar, mleczny... A jednak nie mogę pozbyć się tej analogii z głowy.

Więc jeśli szukasz luksusu i elegancji - to chyba nie jest miejsce dla Ciebie; jeśli potrzebujesz kelnera z muszką - to nie jest miejsce dla Ciebie; a jeśli oczekujesz kulinarnych ekstrawagancji na fikuśnym talerzu - to na bank nie jest miejsce dla Ciebie.

Ale jeśli szukasz "babcinego, domowego posiłku", w miarę przystępnej cenie i szybko - to może być to miejsce, którego szukasz.

Ok. Rozumiem. Wystrój wciąż pamięta chyba PRL, trzeba samemu sobie przynieść jedzenie do stolika, posprzątać po sobie a po sól udać do miłej pary dwa stoliki dalej.

Ale nam bardzo smakowało wszystko co zamówiliśmy, wszystko było świeże, ciepłe i podane przez Panią z uśmiechem - a dla mnie to już naprawdę dużo. I gdyby porcje były nieco większe to dałbym 5*.

I oceniam to miejsce przez pryzmat doświadczenia w nim i do czego tak naprawdę jest przeznaczone a nie w porównaniu z restauracją Michelin 200m dalej.

Jeśli wejdziesz do Baru Neptun bez uprzedzenia i dostosujesz oczekiwania do poziomu cenowego i przeznaczenia tego baru, to nie powinieneś być szczególnie rozczarowany, a jest duża szansa, że opuścisz lokal będąc najedzonym i w miarę zadowolonym człowiekiem 😁 - czyli innymi słowy, ten Fiat 126p restauracji i barów mlecznych dowiezie cię tam gdzie potrzebujesz być ale nie będzie to najcudowniejsze doświadczenie...
