A Disappointing Disconnect Between Promise and Reality :(
I was intrigued by the concept of Chopin Ponad Czasem, a café supposedly inspired by the elegance and sophistication of Poland’s most renowned classical musician, Fryderyk Chopin. Unfortunately, my visit left me deeply disappointed as the reality fell far short of the advertised charm.
We came by hoping to enjoy a decent coffee in a great atmosphere. The café promised class and refinement, with replicas of iconic Polish artwork and the gentle sounds of classical music creating an ambiance worthy of its namesake. Instead, what I encountered was a space that felt more like a Segafredo franchise than a tribute to Chopin. The decor consisted of Segafredo-branded photos, with no sign of the advertised artwork that would have added depth or cultural resonance.
The coffee was thoroughly average, perhaps a 2.5/5 at best—not offensive, but utterly lacking the finesse one might expect from a café claiming a refined, artistic inspiration. I've had worse, but also much better. It’s safe to say the coffee lacked the "spark" that would elevate it to something memorable.
The most glaring letdown was the music. Instead of the delicate, emotive compositions of Chopin, the café blared party-style tunes, wildly inappropriate for a breakfast setting and completely at odds with the promised theme. Chopin would likely be turning in his grave at such a disconnect.
The only connection to Chopin I could find? A branded carpet and an advertisement for Chopin vodka. This shallow nod to the great composer underscored how far the café has strayed from its advertised ethos.
I rarely write negative reviews, but in this case, I feel compelled to urge the management to rethink their approach. The idea of honoring Chopin with a café is a brilliant one, but it demands integrity and thoughtful execution. Without significant changes, the café risks being nothing more than a cheap, commercialized disappointment.
Unless the management turns away from this "cheap-commerce" path and aligns the experience with their brand, avoid at all costs. It’s simply not worth your...
Read moreTO AVOID!!! Total nightmare… we simply came here to have a drink thinking that this restaurant would be a nice place to enjoy the central area of the city. The quantity of alcohol in the drinks was truly disappointing and the food was bad (we ate the chocolate cake which was actually chocolate cream). Finally came the check. The prices were indicated in euros and zlotys on the card which was a good sign because we all had different types of cash. Then, the waiter told us that we couldn’t split the bill and that we had to pay it all in one time. He never told us this info when we ordered, and we ended up panicking about how to pay. We looked through all our stuff to find cash and in the end, we found enough money that one of our friends took to then pay with her card. She paid and we asked for the receipt, on which we saw that he made us pay 40 zlotys more, again… because yes, he added on the check a tip of 40 zlotys. When we told him, he looked very embarrassed and it seemed obvious that he made it on purpose. Thankfully, he gave us the 40 zlotys back. I would never recommend such place, do not...
Read moreWe only ordered some drinks, coffee and ice cream for the kids… Espresso was sour, drinks were average, kids liked the ice cream. So why just 2 stars? The waitstaff, however nice, was so concerned about not splitting our party of 11 amongst 3 tables (they were spread across two “zones” that the waitress and waiter were taking care of), that it made us extremely uncomfortable! This is not good customer service. I understand that the waitstaff needs to split their customers, but I should never hear about it while being served. Moving people from table to table and staff talking about their “zones” in front of us was so unprofessional. It reminded me of a car dealership sales turn taking. They managed to pack us all at one joint table with literally not one inch to move the chair to stand up, disturbing all other guests at adjacent tables. The tables were unstable and we were squished. We’ve never experienced anything like this. For an expensive place like this, we expected way more. The included 10% tip was a...
