Recently joined Slavek's Jewish Heritage tour of Kazimierz in Krakow, and while the historical content had potential, the experience was deeply disappointing.
For most of the tour, Slavek provided informative commentary as we explored Poland's oldest synagogue and walked through the picturesque streets of what was once a thriving Jewish quarter. His knowledge about Jewish traditions and the historical significance of Kazimierz before WWII was evident, including interesting information about "Schindler's List" filming locations.
However, the tour took an unfortunate turn near the end, around the Prince of Wales community center. At this point, one participant began dominating the conversation with a one-sided political narrative about recent Middle East conflicts. This person spoke extensively about Israeli casualties in the October Hamas attack without acknowledging the devastating Palestinian death toll that followed.
What was most frustrating was Slavek's handling of the situation. He repeatedly stated he "didn't want to talk about politics" yet allowed this participant to monopolize what should have been the conclusion of our educational experience. This isn't simply "politics" - it's about acknowledging human suffering on all sides.
The tour ended at the Ghetto Heroes Square near Schindler's Factory, but by that point, the experience had been soured by the unchecked bias that had dominated the final portion of our time.
While most of the tour was informative, I cannot recommend this experience due to the guide's inability to manage group dynamics and ensure a respectful, balanced educational experience for all participants during a crucial part...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of joining a tour of Kraków's Jewish Quarter, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. Our guide was incredibly passionate and deeply knowledgeable, which made all the difference in bringing the rich history of this area to life. From the moment we started, it was clear that our guide wasn’t just reciting facts but truly cared about the stories and significance behind each landmark. They skillfully wove together historical details, cultural insights, and personal anecdotes, which added a powerful emotional depth to the tour. Highlights included visiting the historic synagogues, where we learned about the traditions and resilience of the Jewish community, as well as exploring the charming streets filled with art, cafes, and meaningful memorials. Our guide's enthusiasm was contagious, and they welcomed all our questions with thoughtful responses. What stood out most was the guide's ability to connect past events with present-day Kraków, giving us a profound understanding of how the area has evolved while still honoring its heritage. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kraków. Whether you're a history buff or just curious about the city's cultural fabric, this experience is both educational and deeply moving. Kudos to our guide for making this journey...
Read moreI had a spare day in Krakow after my friends went home, so I decided to book a tour of the Old Town in the morning. By the time that tour had finished I had already booked the afternoon tour of the Jewish Quarter, because the first tour was so good!
The Old Town tour was so much fun, and although I had spent the whole weekend walking around the same streets, I had missed so many hidden gems as well as the historical and cultural context of the buildings. My guide, Slavek, was very informative, funny, and friendly, and he made sure to include everyone and that no one got left behind.
Imagine my joy when I saw that Slavek was also the guide for the afternoon tour of the Jewish Quarter! A few people in our group had done the same thing as me, which goes to show how good the first tour was. Slavek handled the sensitive topics well, with respect and dignity. This tour was less ‘fun’ than the first (to be expected given the subject matter), but it represents a highly important part of history to learn about.
I am really glad that I did both tours, as I learned so much about the city in just one day! I would recommend this tour to everyone. The distance covered isn’t huge, but the scope of the tours is great! Thank you, Slavek, for a...
