I had a standard double room booked. The hotel understood the assignment in terms of the room set up: cleanliness, modern furniture, comfortable mattress, good black out curtains, AC, minibar & kettle.
The facilities are fantastic as it offers a spa in the basement with jacuzzi, steam room & sauna and a 18m long and 1,2m deep pool.
The breakfast is phenomenal - there is an unbelievable selection of everything basically from hot food to cheeses, cakes, fruit, juices and even sparkling wine, if you wish. It's definitely worth having breakfast there. If you can, ask for room service and get your breakfast delivered as a special treat.
What's the hotel falls short on is customer service, in my opinion. They employ relatively young staff at the reception, restaurant and spa and even though they do what they are supposed to (apart from the spa, as whoever is there is bored out of their minds), I just didn't feel that they were particularly kind. It was my birthday and that's why I booked this hotel. The odd thing is that even though they knew that it was my birthday no one would even say happy birthday, which is common courtesy, just like saying 'bless you' when someone sneezes - it's almost rude in my opinion. I felt that it was an incredibly alienated experience staying there, staff members simply didn't care - it's definitely not the hospitality the one expect in a 5 star hotel.
All in all I think the facilities are great but as I just didn't experience any kindness there, I think about this hotel in a very ambivalent way. I was there solo, so if someone goes there as a couple, they wouldn't care much about the lack of attention.
PS: after this review I got an email from the manager to my personal email stating that it was my fault that they didn't wish me well, and to prove it, he went all the way to have scanned my check in form and attached it. He said sorry, it's your fault, not ours, but happy birthday in retrospect, we now washed our hands and we hope you come back to the hotel again. I seriously think they have a problem in terms of conceptualizing customer service. They don't seem to be able to think from the customer's...
Read moreWe had an absolutely wonderful time at this hotel. The service was top-notch, and the quality exceeded all expectations.
Hotel Room:
The room was well-maintained, and the view of the Bazylika Mariacka made the experience even more special. A particularly convenient feature was the wireless charging station by the bedside table, eliminating the need for an adapter. The mattress was extremely comfortable and provided excellent back support.
In some reviews, we read that noise from the neighboring club could be disturbing. While we could hear the music, it was so muffled that it didn’t bother us at all. We always slept well.
Food:
The breakfast buffet left nothing to be desired. And if it did, you could order from the menu at no extra cost.
For dinner, we often went to Trattoria Degusti, where we enjoyed excellent Italian cuisine. The service was outstanding, and the value for money was excellent.
Cleanliness:
The hotel room was impeccably clean. The housekeeping staff even moved the bedside tables to clean behind them – a level of detail you don’t see every day. The entire hotel was spotless.
Spa:
The spa is highly recommended. It is beautifully located in an old vaulted cellar. The large pool is perfect for swimming, and there are various saunas and a whirlpool.
At no point did we feel that it was overcrowded. The only thing I would change is that the swimming pool felt a bit cold to me, but that might just be my personal perception.
Massage:
Both my girlfriend and I took advantage of the massage services. The treatment was very relaxing and professional, and the value for money was excellent.
Extras:
The transfer was arranged in advance via email. The transportation was luxurious and provided a very smooth ride. We were also able to book our tours to the Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz-Birkenau in advance. To send a package, we simply dropped it off at the reception, and they took care of everything else for us.
Conclusion:
We highly recommend this hotel. Our experience was absolutely perfect, and we would love to come...
Read moreHave stayed in Krakow before and used to staying in cheap, but clean, basic apartments. We thought we'd spoil ourselves and stay at Hotel Unicus Palace for our 4 day stay. Gorgeous hotel which was spotless with a stunning spa. Massages are available, but book in asap as we couldn't get two slots. Rooms are very clean and continue to be cleaned daily. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. In each room and in the spa, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion is provided (good quality too) which is handy if you are travelling light. Hotel has a restaurant inside and a different restaurant adjacent - the next door restaurant is good value and has equally friendly staff. For those who have fussy eaters with them, there is a KFC opposite the hotel and a McDonalds just off the square. Some beautiful restaurants nearby that you should try C.K. Browar (not the one in the square), Moo Moo Steakhouse and Boccanera Italian.
Hotel is around a 7 minute walk from the main train station, which you can get a train directly from the airport (14 zloty each, which is around £2.80). The money exchange in the station we found to have the best rate (5.5 for GBP). At the station there is also an enormous shopping centre so within walking distance of the hotel. Hotel is in a nice road just off the square, so is around a 2 minute walk.
The only downside to the hotel is that the photos show a terrace, which we assumed was part of the hotel and could sit at and chill out after using the spa. However, this area is actually part of the restaurant next door, so to use the area, you must purchase something. This wasn't a huge issue for us as we had breakfast there each morning, but there should definitely be an area to sit as part of the hotel.
Would highly recommend staying at Hotel Unicus Palace and we will...
