Sukiennice, also known as the Cloth Hall, is a historic landmark located in the heart of Krakow's Main Market Square. During my recent visit to Krakow, I had the opportunity to explore this iconic building, and it was truly a remarkable experience.

Stepping inside Sukiennice felt like taking a step back in time. The architecture is simply stunning, with its grand arched ceilings and intricate details evoking a sense of awe and wonder. As I wandered through the halls, I couldn't help but admire the beauty and craftsmanship of this centuries-old structure.

One of the highlights of my visit was browsing through the stalls of the Sukiennice Market. Here, local artisans and craftsmen showcase their handmade goods, ranging from traditional Polish folk art to contemporary creations. It was a delight to peruse the diverse array of products on offer, and I ended up finding some unique souvenirs to take home with me.

In addition to its cultural significance, Sukiennice also offers panoramic views of Krakow's Main Market Square from its upper floor. Climbing the stairs to the observation deck, I was treated to sweeping vistas of the bustling square below, dotted with charming cafes, historic buildings, and lively street performers.

Overall, my visit to Sukiennice was a highlight of my time in Krakow. Whether you're interested in history, shopping for local crafts, or simply soaking in the atmosphere of this vibrant city, Sukiennice is a must-visit destination. I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary when...

A Step Back in Time: Krakow's Old Cloth Market The Old Cloth Market, or Sukiennice, is a must-visit when in Krakow's Main Square. This historic building, boasting a Renaissance facade, is said to be the world's oldest shopping mall - a claim that's hard to dispute when you step inside. The interior is a bustling hub of activity. Food stalls tantalize your taste buds with local delicacies, while small shops offer a colorful array of souvenirs and crafts. The terrace cafes provide a welcome respite from the crowds, offering a perfect spot to people-watch while sipping on a refreshing drink. The statue of Adam Mickiewicz stands proudly at the center, adding a touch of cultural significance to the lively atmosphere. However, the market's charm comes with a caveat: it's incredibly crowded, especially during peak tourist season. Be prepared to navigate through throngs of people as you explore the stalls. Also, keep a close eye on your belongings, as pickpockets are known to operate in such busy areas. Despite the crowds and the risk of theft, the Old Cloth Market is a unique and unforgettable experience. It's a place where history meets commerce, offering a glimpse into Krakow's rich past while catering to the needs of modern-day visitors. Just remember to visit early in the day to avoid the worst of the crowds and take necessary precautions to protect your valuables. Tip: The market closes at 6 pm, so plan your visit...

My visit to the Gallery of 19th-Century Polish Art, located in the historic Sukiennice in Kraków, was an exceptional experience. The museum offers a deep dive into Poland's rich artistic heritage, all within the beautifully restored Cloth Hall, a landmark that has stood in the heart of the city for centuries.

The collection is thoughtfully curated, featuring masterworks from some of Poland's most renowned painters, such as Jan Matejko, Józef Chełmoński, and Henryk Siemiradzki. Each piece reflects significant periods in Poland's history, from the grandeur of the Romantic era to the stark realism of 19th-century life.

What impressed me the most was how the museum preserves and presents Polish identity through its art. The detailed descriptions and historical context provided for each work enhanced my understanding, making the visit not just about viewing art but also about learning more about Poland's past.

Whether you're an art enthusiast or simply curious about Polish history, I highly recommend the Gallery of 19th-Century Polish Art. The combination of the Sukiennice’s architectural beauty and the impressive art collection made my visit a truly enriching experience in the heart of Kraków.

As a tourist I feel I must share a bad shopping experience I had a couple of hours ago. Please have in mind that the score would be “no star” whatsoever, yet, 1 is the lowest score one may get. I was shopping at the CLOTH HALL this afternoon, stopped at this shop # 44 to buy some souvenirs and when I turned in the magnets to “this lady” I kindly asked if she could place them in different small (ordinary) paper bags providing they would be given away as souvenirs to different people. She seemed annoyed by my request and sarcastically replied in Polish so I could not reply back. We were talking in English until then, but her sarcasm was crystal clear to put the message across that “those magnets” were too cheap to be given away as “gifts”. Now, if “Mrs. Nasty” thinks magnets are cheap souvenirs, why bother putting them for sale? Why doesn’t she keep only her “amber jewelry” instead? On top of that, we tourists make her business run as local residents are likely not to shop at that place. LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, it is not the price of the souvenir that matters… but the meaning it carries that someone was thought of while I was traveling overseas…
