A Mixed Experience at portobello pizza and pasta - Exceptional Atmosphere, Disappointing Cuisine
I visited portobello on Saturday, July 13th, and was immediately captivated by the lively atmosphere. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the DJ, whose music selection was phenomenal. The tunes created a vibrant and enjoyable ambiance that made the experience delightful from the moment I walked in.
However, my excitement waned when it came to the food. Despite the promising start, the service of food was quite slow, and the wait for our dishes felt unnecessarily long. When the food finally arrived, I was disappointed. Both the Carbonara and the gnocchi con carne were excessively salty, to the point where even as a lover of salty flavors, I found them nearly inedible. The overwhelming saltiness overshadowed any other potential flavors, leaving me with a negative impression of the meal.
In summary, while portobello excels in creating a fantastic atmosphere with great music, there is a significant need for improvement in the kitchen. I hope they can balance the quality of their food to match the exceptional...
Read moreOverall, I had a decent experience at portobello. Here's a breakdown:
Service: The service staff were friendly and attentive, almost top-notch. However, it seemed a bit understaffed, which might explain slightly slower service times if the restaurant was full.
Food: The food was good, solid, but not quite perfect.
Highlights:
The tartar was excellent, with a bold flavor.
The gnocchi was tasty, though I think it would be phenomenal with truffle (a suggestion for the menu perhaps?).
Lowlights:
The bruschetta was a bit of a letdown - edible, but uninspired.
Drinks: The wine selection was decent, and the glasses were a good size for the price.
Ambiance: The decor aimed for a stylish Italian vibe, but the large cafe-like layout felt a bit at odds with it, detracting from the Italian atmosphere.
Overall: It was a middle-of-the-road experience. The service was friendly, the food was mostly good, and the prices were fair. With a few tweaks to the menu (like adding truffle gnocchi) and a cozier layout, this restaurant could be...
Read moreI would give this place 3,5, but unfortunately GM didn’t create such ratings yet. The food was good, I ordered pizza, it tasted nice. But no wow effects. Drinks were ok, but all this “good impression” was messed up hard when in the end in front of my eyes without any notifications when I wanted to pay by card for my pizza and one drink, in the time to process my card - service girl unexpectedly added a tip up to 10 PLN on the terminal without asking, telling, just automatically adding the tip to my check. Imagine my face – I was basically shocked. None did inform me about this or I didn’t see any info in the menu about it. Usually people tell that such and such amount will be paid for the service. Usually inform guests before they order. This behavior was so impolite, I felt like someone stole my money in front of me. Maybe this girl could provide 30 PLN tip or more… I really hate such places where tips are demanded in a very unpleasant way. So, be...
