“Champagne for Breakfast”—and Other Modern Fairy Tales of Wrocław
On a gloriously smug spring day—the kind where the sun kisses your cheeks just enough to remind you you’re alive and probably should have moisturised—we found ourselves strolling through the gentrified beauty that is plac Jana Pawła II. It’s all leafy boulevards, achingly modern apartments that whisper “I’m owned by someone who wears cashmere on weekdays”, and smug baby strollers that cost more than your monthly rent.
And then, there it was. Like a perfectly filtered mirage in the middle of a brunch-based hallucination: Champagne for Breakfast—a bistro-cum-photo studio cunningly disguised as a restaurant. With a mock-up sandpit (because, why not?) and deck chairs that scream “Ibiza via IKEA”, the outdoor seating area is part beach club, part pop-up Coachella, and fully heated—which is helpful in Poland, where summer lasts 11 minutes.
We walked in and I was instantly hit with the strong scent of...influence. Not aroma, mind you—influence. The kind that demands a flat lay of your oat milk cappuccino before you’re allowed to drink it. The entire interior feels like it was designed by someone whose Pinterest board got into a bar fight with a fashion magazine. There she is—Audrey Hepburn, forever mid-mimosa—with a neon pink proclamation hovering over her like divine brunch gospel: “Champagne for Breakfast”. I’m not entirely sure what existential void the name is meant to fill, but I do admire the commitment to the bit. It's like naming a nightclub "Emotional Stability."
The menu? A QR-code affair, obviously—because paper is so pre-pandemic. Thankfully, it was in English, saving us from playing "Guess That Entrée" via Google Translate.
Now let’s talk food. My friend, brave soul that she is, ordered the hog ribs—a slab of meat so monumental it could’ve been mistaken for a Viking offering. She loved it, or at least didn’t complain, which in Wrocław is a rave review. I went for the Caesar salad, and here’s where my romantic comedy with this place turned into a mildly disappointing Netflix original.
Let me preface this by saying: if you’re going to put "Caesar salad" on the menu, make Caesar proud. I expected anchovies—the sexy, salty heart of any Caesar worth its croutons. What I got instead were capers, just vibing awkwardly in the mix like someone who turned up at a toga party in skinny jeans. The chicken was as dry as a legal disclaimer, and while the bacon was appropriately crispy, the cherry tomatoes were an unwelcome plot twist. Tomatoes in a Caesar salad? That’s culinary gaslighting.
The dressing—if you could call it that—was thinner than a Tinder excuse, and appeared to be missing any trace of egg yolk or mustard. It lacked that signature creamy, slightly naughty richness that Caesar dressing should have. Also, the croutons were suspiciously uniform, as though they'd been born in a factory and not a frying pan.
That said, my cappuccino was hot, smooth, and arrived without incident—a rare miracle in these times. The service? Satisfactory, in that modern Eastern European way that says: “We won’t smile, but we’ll get the job done.” And to be fair, they did.
Would I come back? Probably. Because despite all my grievances, Champagne for Breakfast is a vibe. It's beautiful, it's curated, and it fits perfectly into the Instagrammable dreams of the luxury apartments that surround it. It’s not culinary perfection—but it doesn’t need to be. It’s brunch as performance art, a place to be seen sipping, snapping, and saying “We should totally do this again,” with only mild sincerity.
With just a dash more care in the kitchen and a few tweaks to the small details, this place could truly sparkle—not just on Instagram, but in reality too.
Until then, I’ll be over here, waiting for my Caesar with anchovies and a side of...

The place with such price range leaves you abandoned waiting for a waiter to spot you, after half an hour of your life being waisted no one comes to take your order. Sadly you have to leave looking for another place where you’ll be treated as a guest and most important get your food. Dear management, big amount of guests is not an excuse; hiring more staff will have solved appalling situations like this easily to provide a customer oriented service and a nice experience. P. S. If you decide to visit this place, make sure to gesture vividly or shout to waiter...
