Highly recommended if you’re looking for a local, high-quality dining experience away from tourist traps. A real gem in Łódź.
This restaurant truly stands out. The menu is incredibly well-thought-out and detailed, offering a great variety of local dishes that cater to all tastes and dietary needs. You can tell there’s real care behind every choice on the menu.
The wild mushroom soup with beef was absolutely spectacular—rich, deep in flavor, yet each ingredient kept its own identity.
Then came the beef tongue with horseradish and vegetables, and it was even better. The meat was surprisingly tender, perfectly cooked, and the flavors were in total harmony. A special mention goes to the vegetables: far from the usual carrot, bell pepper, and green bean mix—these were original, flavorful, and clearly chosen with creativity.
If I could suggest one small improvement, it would be to serve the sauce on the side so you can better control the balance. Still, the dish was outstanding.
The staff were very attentive and helpful, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Read moreI suppose every city has one or two restaurants that have been around for decades, were once the top place, still have a staunch local following, and perhaps look a little past their best, or 'weathered.' Anatewka is one of these, and like others I know, it was worth visiting to experience its distinctive cuisine and to sense something of the local culture that you won't find elsewhere. Such as, the traditional Jewish-style and Polish cuisines, the cosy atmosphere, almost like being in an old family's rambling apartment, and even the young violinist perched on top of high furniture playing a medley of Polish and Jewish favourites. I went on a Sunday afternoon (with a wee hangover from the night before!) and found the selection of hot and cold starters much to my liking, especially Szpik kostny z pietruszką i limonką (bone marrow with greens and lime sauce), which was perfectly fatty, oily, savoury, herby and tart. The menu and drinks selection is pretty extensive and you will find many vegan, vegetarian and...
Read moreAnatewka in Łódź turned out to be one of those places you stumble upon by chance and end up remembering long after the trip is over. Tucked near the end of a quiet street, it’s a small restaurant with a cozy, unpretentious charm. The food? Solid. Nothing over-the-top or experimental, just well-prepared, flavorful dishes that hit the spot.
What really stood out, though, was the staff. The team was genuinely warm and attentive—not in the scripted, overly rehearsed way, but the kind of hospitality that actually makes you feel like a welcome guest rather than a customer.
The evening I visited, they had live violin music—not some elaborate performance, just a subtle, beautiful touch that added atmosphere without demanding attention. As someone who loves the sound of the violin, that felt like a real bonus.
If I find myself back in Łódź, I’d happily return to Anatewka. It’s not trying to be anything it’s not—it just does what it does very well. And honestly, that’s rare enough...
