Me and my boyfriend visited a couple of days ago after looking on trip advisor and seeing the fantastic reviews. We loved how the restaurant was small and the staff were incredibly attentive and helpful - just as other people have commented. We wanted a bottle of red to start - the waiter helped us choose a nice bottle (and didn't try push the most expensive!). We had the mid-range bottle (about €24 I believe) and it was just as good as the waiter promised, and complimented the food perfectly.
The starters (a portugal meat and cheese bread and then a posh sort of sausage package cooked in cheese mmmm) were unbelievable. Our expectations had already been massively topped by this time.
For mains we had the chateaubriand to share, perfectly cooked medium rare and melted in the mouth. This could honestly be the best steak we've ever had. The side was some veg and a baked potato which had the insides removed, then cooked with bacon and garlic (I think) before being put back in the skin & baked with cheese on top.
I hope this review is enough to persuade people to visit this beautiful dainty restaurant. It's a few streets away from the old town square but still in the old town and not much of a walk from the bars, etc.
Thank you for a lovely experience! If we come back to albuferia, we will...
Read moreWe found this place on google reviews, and we were delighted with the food, atmosphere, wine and the staff. We were only in Albuferia for 4 nights but we had to come back here on our last night. The first night we got the Chateaubriand for two people, it was delicious, perfectly cooked served with an unbelievable peppercorn sauce. We had panna cotta for desert, it was lovely and light and the perfect balance between creamy and sweet! On our last night we got the Fillet steak with port and red wine sauce, cooked to perfection as our previous steak, and we also tried a traditional Portuguese steak dish with pickles, cheese and bacon, which was fabulous. The waitress recommended a red wine called silk and spice, which was made with grapes from all over Portugal, in comparison to other wines which are made with grapes from one particular region. It was so good that we had it both nights and brought a bottle home with us! Overall amazing locally run establishment, friendly and helpful staff. 10/10 experience! Would recommend you make a reservation as there is not a massive amount of seating, but that adds to the...
Read moreThis small intimate venue is tucked away down the backstreets of the old city. With this place comes kind service, generous portions, great cuts of meat and wonderful variety. Seemingly rather extensive wine list for a multitude of budgets, and even better? No football on a telly. Seems like one of the few places that isn't just a tourist trap, no over the top branding or someone trying to pull you in. It's kitchy, cosy and classy. Went for the mixed board (various cheeses and sausages with a honey relish), the garlic bread was soft and juicy with a nice crunch, not overdone, the MFA special which truly is special. 'Spinach, steak wrapped in cheese and bacon and potato' doesn't sell it - just try it... and the MFA risotto (and steak) exceeded expectation too. Can't recommend this place enough if you're in or...
