Rock Café Bar — Restaurant in Albufeira

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! This place takes CASH ONLY! We were only informed after we had already consumed our drinks. We were a party of 4, with only our phones and no cards to go to an ATM. I explained to the server that we had no cash. (Our bank does not permit phone withdrawals from ATM). She got her manager. ALEX came down to us and was very rude in his tone and became aggressive towards me after I explained the situation. I had to ask him to get out of my personal space twice and having felt very uncomfortable, I asked him to call the police to deal with the situation. This also happened to another family and one child was crying after their altercation. The police arrived about 15 minutes later. The police officer told us we would have to separate, and one person would have to go back to our hotel to retrieve an ATM card and that the bill would have to be paid that night, while the rest of the group had to stay at that location. Terrible service, terrible customer service and care and overall a damaging image of beautiful Portugal and Albufeira Old Town. *Easy solution - inform customers of the CASH ONLY SERVICE before taking orders. Embarrassing for staff, embarrassing for customers and overall embarrassing way of doing “business” ALEX! You should be ashamed of your image and character in the way you do business and the way you speak to human beings.

**Update: To your pathetic response as the “manager”… Your staff - a lovely female staff member, apologised profusely for the terrible experience. She sat with two from our group to apologise for this scene that was caused and that “it happens all the time”. She told them that she can not understand this way of doing business.

Alex - you are so rude, disrespectful and should not be dealing with the public. Lier(*liar)? Didn’t even have the courage to explain your response. You have zero integrity.

Like I said… AVOID!!! Unless under new management. Terrible image of beautiful Portugal...

Very poor service from the owner Alex Ferreira today. He was very rude, Arrogant and aggressive towards several customers in our 20 minutes here. Avoid this place at all costs.

Very slow and poor service, bar only takes cash which was only advised after drinks had been consumed and the bill had been requested 6 times. We only had our contactless payment options on our phones as we left all cards in our hotel. Police were called at our request as Alex was very Aggressive and invading personal space when we requested other payment options.

There is two signs where we sat outside, both signs very small and not noticeable, we only saw the signs when they were pointed out by a very aggressive and angry manager. Other customers also only noticed at this stage.

Unacceptable behaviour by management, will never return here. Alex should not be in a job dealing with the public. When the police came, Alex lied to them, telling them that we didn’t want to pay and didn’t want to make any other arrangements. Very poor “ownership”.

Very nice bar, great live music, friendly ‘ish’ bar staff until it came time to pay. We have very much enjoyed The Algarve but have noticed that not very many places take card, only cash. We had approx 6 drinks, bill came to €90. Has €75 cash which we paid and said we’d bring cash tomorrow or pay transfer but no, they have a sign saying cash only 🤷‍♀️ not good, this was 02:20 in the morning by the way.
