Overall negative experience. We didn’t feel welcomed. 1. While ordering the waiter was impacient and putting us in an uncomfortable position. 2. More than half of the menu was over and therefore it was difficult to order what we wanted. Besides that we ordered a dish accompained with bread but at the end they didn’t have bread and didn’t bring it. When we asked for the bread that should be included they explained they didn’t have. They should have been honest and explain this and not ignore the situation. 3. The portions were very small for the price! Besides that we saw other pictures were the servings were better than ours proving us our servings were indeed less than what it should be. The serving of “enchidos” were very little and didn’t have different types. Some of the clams were closed (and therefore could not be eaten). 4. The waiters seemed very smiley but were actually very incompetent and not honest. In reality they seemed very fake. 5. At the end we gave a small tip but they didn’t even thank us! Quite ungrateful! At the end, after 5 days in the island, this was sadly the most negative moment. However, we had great experiences at other restaurantes like a “Taberna do Roberto” e “À Vista”. Much better price-quality relationship.

Unfortunately, when we ordered, I wanted to make sure that we weren’t served our main course until we were ready and the sirloin steak we ordered came before we finished the glass of white wine we had with our first course. I was difficult when the second course arrived because the server did not have any room to set down the second course and I was of no help. The fillet mignon steak was delicious but our red wine did not arrive in time to enjoy it with our steak. My wife steak was almost finished before the red wine arrived. When my red wine arrived, my steak was cold, my french fries we’re also cold. The steak was delicious. And the wine that was paired with. It was delicious as well. Caution to people going out to enjoy an evening of fine dining. Wait until after you’ve had your first course before you order your next course. Particularly at this location. When the server asked how everything was I explained to him about the timing between the courses and wine servings we were having and his response was indifference.

Classic tourist trap overcrowded with foreigners wanting to cross this off their to-do list. Not enough small tables so bored single travellers occupy 4-person tables while idly browsing their social media for ages. Meanwhile guests with or without reservations queue at the bar and out through the door, giving cold hard stares as they impatiently wait for diners to finish their meal and leave so they can pounce on a table. Food arrived quickly but nothing special. Probably the only restaurant in Portugal to serve a mixed cheese/meat platter without bread - which cost extra after chasing 2 waiters for 10 minutes. Euro 30 for a bottle of Terras De Lava Branco costing Euro 10.90 in the shops. Euro 78 for 4 starters and a bottle of wine was by far the most expensive meal during a two week vacation. After speaking with a few locals, we learned that nobody from Angra would recommend this restaurant. For a real Portuguese food experience, find where the locals eat.

Looks great, friendly staff, maybe we just had a bad experience.

The good: -We arrived to a crowded restaurant, put our names on the list, and were seated in 10 minutes. -My wife ordered tuna and sweet potatoes, which was great. Tuna was grilled medium, and the sweet potatoes were tender and delicious. -Overall service was very friendly, staff is comfortable with English, and the menu is in Portuguese with an English translation. -Service seems very fast

The bad: -While waiting for our table, I walked up the street to look in a window. The hostess called our name, my wife answered, was ignored and another couple was seated. As I walked back the hostess came outside to see if we needed a table since we were the only people outside. I said we were already on the list and gave our name. As she checked her list, I noticed the parties above and below our name had been crossed off. The hostess realized the mistake she made and sat us promptly. -I ordered the shrimp pasta, which was a mistake. Pasta was spaghetti from a box, shrimp was probably frozen, and overcooked. -We wanted to try the octopus salad, but they were out of octopus, oh well. -Although tables around us were served very fast, our entrees took a long time to arrive, to the point that the waitress asked if we had eaten yet (30 minutes after we ordered). We said we had not, so she checked on our entrees which arrived about 5 minutes later.

Overall, this place has a great environment, good wine selection, and interesting menu. I think we just had a bad experience, but would try it again. Just don't order the...

Wow! I am visiting for just a few days with my husband and our newly turned 22 month old. The tourist season just started about a week ago so most restaurants in the area were PACKED and couldn’t accommodate us. Has a Das Tias took us right away and not only did they take us, they did so with joy and grace. It’s very clear that everyone in this establishment LOVES what they too and takes pride in the hospitality they offer. We ordered the traditional Alcatra ans it was PHENOMENAL. The meat melted in our mouths, the tomato salad was fresh and DELICIOUS and the bread was, as expected in Portugal, fresh and DELECTABLE. I would say the food was the best part but actually, it was the service (which is saying a lot because the food is the best I’ve had so far in our 8 days in the Azores and they have GREAT food here). When we arrived, my son was quite fussy as he was hungry, and the hostess brought over homemade toys, consisting of tin cups and wine bottle stoppers, the perfect thing to keep him entertained. Then, when she noticed 10 minutes later that he was losing interest in the cups, she brought over a magazine for us to share with him. Although was swamped, the staff kept stopping by to say hi to my son, flirt with him, play with him and give him sweet hugs and kisses. This place truly feels like family even though I’ve only been there for three hours. I’ve never left a review before, but I had to after the incredible experience I had here. You...

If you are in a rush to eat, hold your horses. Getting a table at Tasca das Tias is a "périple". After numerous and unsuccessful attempts to book a table over the phone, we went in and realized it was crowded. We gave our names which were written on paper and we were told it was going to be 'quick'. In the meantime we saw various couples and families being sitted and were told they had a reservation: fair enough, we thought. However, after over 30 minutes wait standing at the door, we saw a couple who had their names after ours on the written list, waving at the owner who told them they could sit without checking the reservation book. We were under the impression that locals get a special treatment. We immediately complained but no luck. The owner did not apologize to us and we were basically ignored. Then his wife said she was sorry to us but the damage was already done. We were seated about 10 minutes later, so roughly 45 minutes wait in total. The food was good but not extraordinary, a bit pricey for the size of the portions we were served. The atmosphere is close to what you would expect in a "tasca", a bit noisy, yet welcoming. The staff is very friendly and in the end, they apologized to us for something they were not responsible for. We won't come back because of the attitude of the owner who should have assumed his mistake and spoken to us directly. Apparently this situation happens frequently if you take time to check the...
