After hearing that a new Indian restaurant had opened in Cascais and with the lockdown rules finally easing a bit, we looked online and made a reservation at Chutnify Cascais. The restaurant is small but very entertainingly decorated with beautiful Indian artwork! We sat outside on the terrace, enjoying a table under the sun - protected by a pretty sun shade.
As it was the weekend, we had a special breakfast brunch menu which covered a lot of breakfast choices as well as suitable choices for lunch.
I had a delicious crispy masala dosa, a huge crispy pancake filled with a potato filling. I asked for it non spicy and the wait staff willingly obliged. It was served with a coconut chutney and a tomato chutney.
My dining companions had a mutton roll each and a Chicken Chettinad. The mutton roll consisted of delicious and well cooked mutton in a paratha roll garnished with chopped onion and served with a mint- coriander sauce.
The chicken Chettinad was spiced enough to make the dish flavourful and tasty without making it a tear inducing experience and it was thoroughly enjoyed.
Our drinks included authentic Indian Kingfisher beer and a refreshing mango lassi- a drink made with yoghurt and mango pulp, delicately flavoured with a hint of cardamom. Absolutely delightful!
The owner Aparna is a lovely, friendly lady who ensured that all her guests were well taken care of and the wait staff were polite and attentive to all our needs!
Needless to say we will be returning soon, now that the weather is getting warm and...
Read moreFor Cascais and after last less than regular experience at Masala this is now our go-to in Cascais. Prices are a little higher tho cannot really go wrong with the Thali offerings ( veg/ meat / shrimp) that include rice and bread and side dish all on one separated compartment metal dish. The location is amongst some closed-to-vehicle side streets up from the Visconde garden. It’s a calmer location than Masala’s where there is a constant buzz of passers-by. Our most recent experience this last week was on the weekend that DOESN’T include Thalis in case you wonder why the option disappeared from the menu. We chose some samosas, cheese Nan, chilli garlic prawns, and duck dosa (16.50 €). All good though the duck was a little over-flavored (spicy-salty) for my liking… all in all a reasonable experience on the weekend though will stick to the Thali experience weekday lunches..
Third visit. A good Thali as usual though we asked for several drink options of which none were available. No non-alcoholic beer, no regular Agua das Pedras, no dark beer. These are all options. Suggest better...
Read moreI’ve seen many reviews of good experiences, however this was not the case for me and my parents.
We ordered golgappas as a starter, two dosas, and a naanwich, and we had to wait 20 minutes for the starter and another 25 minutes for the rest of the food. Not only this, but even customers who arrived after us got their food long before we did.
Secondly, when the food arrived, there were burnt to a crisp curry leaves in my masala, and my mom did not like the sambar because it was cold and very liquidy. My dad, who ordered a naanwich with masala fries, enjoyed the naanwich, but thought that the fries lacked in flavour, they were dusted in spice and there was nothing masala about them. His masala tea also lacked creaminess.
Finally, although my mom and I ordered the same dish, we had different bowls. My chutney was served in bowls, but my mom’s was served in shot glasses.
To conclude, the decor was nice, the staff were friendly and we were very happy to find an Indian restaurant in Cascais, so I hope my review will give them a chance to improve on...
