Get over yourself, itâs not Michelin star pizza. (For starters I never write bad reviews and this review comes after multiple visits.)
If youâre in the area and you want some pretty ok pizza with a side of a pretentiousness, and an overall weird vibe, Souldough is probably for you! The owner / chef clearly think too highly of their above average pizza.
This place is the opposite of hospitable. (Iâve worked in hospitality) Their favorite word for the most basic of requests is no.
In general I will say, the staff is quite nice, but theyâve all clearly been put in an awkward/uncomfortable situation by having to enforce ârulesâ from the owner or management.
Q: Could I please order this pizza without coriander? A: No- Q: What if I have an allergy? A: We suggest you order a different pizza. To leave off an ingredient would ruin the flavor profile of the pizza.
Q: Could we order a dessert to take away? A: No we donât do that, we donât have take away boxes. Q: Could I put the cake in a pizza box? A: No
Q: Could we move these two tables together? A: No Q: Could you please check with someone. A: No itâs the rule not to move the table. (Large party, made a reservation, sat at two long tables running parallel to one wall. Wouldnât have impeded service in any way to have them moved 1 meter together.)
I could go on but anyway, they are just unapologetically cold; you feel like you should be bowing to them and kissing their feet for allowing you to eat the apparent pizza of the gods.
Iâd love to talk to the owner/chef who thinks theyâve mastered these flavors so perfectly to the point theyâre unwilling to leave off one ingredient. The taste is far from worth the experience of...
Read moreUnfortunately, my experience at this restaurant was not at all what I had hoped for.⨠We chose to come here because of the high reviews, but I now want to warn anyone with allergies, dietary preferences, or other food-related needs: this does not seem to be a restaurant prepared to accommodate such requirements. I tried to explain that I really cannot eat certain ingredients, but it was not taken seriously. For example, it was impossible to remove even one ingredient from a pizza with many toppings, because the waiter said the pizza wouldnât taste good without it. I explained that the taste was not the issue. I just wanted to be able to eat the food without getting sick. Despite this they refused to try to adapt the dish. In the middle of this, he suddenly asked which country I come from, which felt irrelevant and strange in the context. I calmly replied that it was okay, we could drop it, and that I would rather go to another restaurant. Then he insisted that we stay. He wrote down my allergies (four which were on their menu) and suddenly suggested another pizza with fewer ingredients, where he would agree to remove something. My big question is: why was it impossible to remove an ingredient from the pizza I originally wanted, but from another one it was suddenly no problem? I said I could take the new pizza but asked if they could add vegan cheeseâwhich I can tolerate and which they had in the kitchenâso the pizza wouldnât be so boring. But even that was completely impossible, despite the cheese being in...
Read moreWow, I really wanted to enjoy my first time dining here - especially after it comes so highly recommended by friends who also live here. Unfortunately, I will likely never return again.
The pizza is excellent, the ambiance is great...but buyer be VERY AWARE...
when it was time for our party of four to split the bill, the staff told our friend the credit card didn't go through and they would need to run it again. When we asked for proof (which is a normal request) the staff person showed us a receipt from a different customer. We checked our friend's online bank which proved it had been paid correctly...and had we not checked, our friends would have been charged twice! Ok, sometimes mistakes happen but the person charging us showed zero remorse or apology, and it completely soured our dining experience. Try to dbl charge us, don't show any remorse... it is a nice restaurant, but resting on that alone without attention to customer service will be bad for business.
A separate, small inconvenience is they do not offer forks or knives to customers. Utensils should be available upon request, given the prices on the menu, and the fact it's not a food truck.
Advice to ownership: don't rest on your laurels because local clients have higher standards than 1-time tourists who won't be here in the winter months to support you; there are lots of great places to eat in Cascais...give ALL your guests a reason to want...
