Shocked this place has such good reviews. I tried to order Poncha, they were out. I tried to order one of their three glasses of red wine, they were out.

My partner got the Portuguese steak. He ordered it medium rare, but it was well done- extremely overcooked, dry, and lacking flavor. Quite terrible. My fish pasta wasn’t great, and they brought the fish out as an afterthought a few minutes after bringing out my pasta- someone “forgot” to put the fish on the pasta (??).

No one ever came to check on us to ask how our food was, so we never got to complain about the way it was cooked. My partner had to go inside to find someone to ask for the check. When he brought it, we finally complained about the food and he agreed and said he would tell the chef. Came back and still charged us the full amount with no offer for a discount due to the poorly prepared food. This was the last straw that brought my 2 star review...

When we are on holiday, we are always cautious about tourist traps. When we stood in front of Jaket restaurante in the old fishermen's neighborhood of Funchal, we immediately saw that this was the place we had been looking for - a beautiful, well-maintained terrace, no flashy signs, and no pushy waiters. We took a seat on the terrace and were welcomed by a friendly lady who explained everything perfectly. What we had suspected turned out to be true: fine dishes of a high standard at reasonable prices. It’s truly remarkable to find such a great spot in a street filled with cheap tourist restaurants.
