Absolutely dreadful experience at Toca the Baco in Funchal. This place serves the most overpriced and mediocre food in town. To make matters worse, the 'Pe de Cabra' drink they prepare is nothing short of awful.
What's even more infuriating is that the menu doesn't display the prices – a blatant trap to catch unsuspecting diners, especially tourists. Locals or people from mainland Portugal might get slightly better prices, but they'll still squish the unsuspecting tourist.
Adding to the frustration, their menu offers just what you ask for. If you order squid, you'll get squid only, without the accompaniments that most other places include, like salad and potatoes.
Save yourself the trouble and avoid this restaurant like the plague. There are far better dining options in Funchal worth your time and money. #BadDiningExperience #TocaTheBaco...
Read moreWe happened to have stumbled upon this cafe looking for a late night dinner. The nearby restaurants turned us away because their kitchens had closed, and we couldn't have been more happy that they did. This cafe has THE BEST pregos on the island and the homemade poncha is worth writing home for. We've tried different pregos all around the island but none of them had the same exquisite flavor and TENDER meat. The tenderness of the meat is unbelievable. If you take a bit, a piece of meat will come out with it (unlike at other locations where the full piece of meat comes out because the meat is too chewy). Additionally, the owner and staff are incredibly friendly and the service felt familiar. I had a great experience returning for a Prego sandwich and Poncha every chance I had. I recommend this place to...
Read morePlease check the prices carefully before sitting down. Very overpriced place. The menu is very misleading. We have ordered prego sandwich (which was very tasty), french fries and salad. The waiter (young boy) didnt proposed the options of the salads and we were served with super expensive 18 EUR salad (containing no meat neither fish). When I asked the waiter why the salad costs so much he replied that it is with some palm (inside part). It did not taste nice. I just ordered some salad to my french fries. Good quality place would ask customer what kind of salad they prefer. The owner trying to create nice atmosphere was not singing but rather shouting. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our lunch :( it was the most expensive meal and the biggest disappointment on the island...
