Came by for the bathroom, was greeted, but never told of any surcharge to use the bathroom. Came out, they yold me I had to pay 1 euro.. the fact that they waited to tell me wad bad enough, okay, whatever, let's order a beer.

So my son and I sit down, order a small and grande beer. The default is to provide 25cl and 30cl from the bottle, not draft.

I look up and I see the bartender using draft, so I walk up and say no thank you, we ordered 2 coral beers, 1 small 1 large (grande). He didnt quite understand so I said it in Portuguese, then contunued in English, my preferred language. He said, this is what you ordered, pointed to the half 0.5L of draft Coral and the 30cl grande Coral beer, then told me to speak in Portuguese arguing with me about what we ordered vs what we expected.

Should have just corrected it and not forced me to speak his native tongue just to argue some more.

In Portugal it's also customary to bring out munchies with your drinks. Nuts, beans, etc, for free. We were very uncomfortable sitting there with no munchies, watching other people get them. They also immediately rushed the bill to our table the moment we sat down with our drinks.

Terrible customer experience. Don't recommend. Felt like they did a draft beer of 500ml just to overcharge us and claim it was a misunderstanding when we were very clear about what we wanted.. all this started because they forced us to pay 1 euro for using a bathroom...

Terrible experience here at lunchtime. We left before even ordering a drink. There was one young woman serving and she was scowling all the time. We sat for 5 minutes being completely ignored. Eventually we got up to leave, at which point a male water appeared and asked us why we were leaving. We said we were fed up of waiting (there were about 15 customers). So we actually sat down again thinking we were being served. He walked away without taking our order. We gave it a few more minute, being completely ignored, and we got up for a second time and left. There were other tables of people who were clearly equally as annoyed as we were. Nobody had any food or drinks. Everyone turning their heads looking for service. We were there 10 minutes and didn’t see a single person order anything or get anything served. The miserable woman was just leaning on...

Magnífico! I am so grateful to have ran across this amazing dining experience. We met wonderful people who made our New Year’s Eve so awesome. My family and I traveled to Portugal and we needed a place to eat on New Year’s Eve, because we had just flew in to Madeira from Lisbon. Luckily for us, after we checked many restaurants, Apauza allowed us inside with open arms. Everyone involved made sure our experience was awesome. Little did they know, it was also my aunts 50th birthday weekend. We were treated like family! We had the Nikita, lamb chops, the New Year’s Eve meal, the Madeira steak… you name it, we tried it. Make sure to stop by and give these sweet people some good company. They will definitely make sure your experience is top tier. Thanks again Andrea 💙 You’re...

After living in Funchal for 3,5 months, I can safely say that this is probably the absolute worst restaurant in the entire city, if not the entire island of Madeira. The food here is horrible, as pointed out by several other reviewers, and the service is no better. Furthermore the restaurant hires a lot of musicians that, with the help of large speakers, pollute the local area both day and night. Now, I don’t mind musicians at restaurants, and several places in Madeira hires musicians to liven up the mood, which I’m all for. However, when the music you play, also plays music for the next 10 blocks and 30 restaurants from mid day until late in the night, it’s no longer livening up the mood, it’s noise pollution.

Avoid A Pausa in Madeira – A Tourist Trap with Terrible Service and Rotten Food I had one of the worst dining experiences at A Pausa. The service was downright awful — the staff was cold, unfriendly, and made no effort to be helpful. I ordered Lulas à Lagareiro, but what I received was clearly a different dish. Not only that, the food was terrible: the potatoes were literally rotten (see photo), and the entire dish tasted off, as if it had been cooked days ago and just reheated. Plus the beer came with a fly ☺️ just to make the perfect scene. This place is a classic tourist trap — overpriced, low-quality food and zero hospitality. Definitely not worth your time or money.
