NEW OVNI ASIAN FUSION RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Funchal

Ovni restaurant can be hard to find. Access is from Praca do Carmo. Look for the arches on the east side of the square. Near the top end is a passage through to the rear of the restaurants and cafes. At the end of the passage, Ovni is at the top end on the left, with plenty of seating outside.

Ovni specialises in Asian cuisine. The owner is a superb chef and the food is packed with great flavours. I've tried several curries and they have been outstanding.

Busy weekday lunchtimes and can be in the evening as well, so mid afternoon is a good time to try.

At first it took an hour for our food to be served. We weren’t given enough glasses for our party and when we asked for more bottles of water they said they had run out. Mind you that this was in peak season. The servers didn’t give us basic cutlery, we didn’t even get knives. We got served chicken masala which wasn’t cooked and was very hard in the middle. It also looked lumpy like canned tomato soup. It literally looked like it came from a canned tin. Furthermore our rice was cold and none of it was seasoned. My daughter loves dumplings and noodles, so we picked this place. We ordered various dishes and we would say only dumplings didn’t completely fail. The seafood ramen tastes like noodle in salt water & soysauce. Who would put canned mushroom and soy-sauce in seafood ramen?! Nepalese mixed plate （on the bottom right of the picture ）is totally unrepresentative! Curry dish is acceptable and there can be improved. We have travelled around the island for a month. $59 I would get way better quality of food...
