O Celeiro — Restaurant in Funchal

We visited here after speaking to the owner who was encouraging people in to dine. Set on a busy back street we were hungry so stepped in. We sat outside where tables were closely placed together due to the restrictive space. The food was very good, as was the service by both waiters with an excellent command of English. There were only two little issues. One was the waste of food, every table had the most amazing selection of fresh vegetables added to the meal that simply were not needed. We are as much of ours as we could because we couldn’t beat the idea of them being thrown away. The other was the noisy table of six that didn’t understand table etiquette and insisted on ruining everyone’s otherwise wonderful evening soaking in what would have been a lovely atmosphere. Visited on a weeknight and the place was very quiet (this was all round) not much atmosphere. We ordered 2 starters and 2 mains which included sides.

The place could’ve done maybe with some music as otherwise very quiet being the only customers. The staff were attentive and polite.

The food: seafood wise, not the best I’ve had with the only thing fresh was the shells, I felt the octopus was too soft and had too much oil. The meats on the other hand was delicious! Highly recommend the meat skewer and lamb chops. I enjoyed all the sides too.

The food was great, but we have to take down two stars for the service. First, we were told by the waitress to take off the phones from the table and put it in the bag, so that she can put the food there. Second and more important, the openong hours say it's open till 11pm, but we were told by the waitress at 10.15pm, if we could pay because they are to close in 10 min. (It's been 5mins after we got our dessert and glass of wine) and then the lady stand beside us while we were trying to bottom-up our drinks and finish the dessert.
