If you only have one poncha, have it here. Best of 10 or so we had. Gentleman working the bar makes each to order. The sound of the tenacious muddling of the freshly peeled citrus and sugar resounds through the square outside. Each batch made with dedication to a tried and true method. The results speak for themselves.

Also, a shout out to the young waiter who handles 30+ guests on the terrace with speed, grace, and good humor. Impeccable hustle.

We didn't get to try the food, but it looked to be an excellent value. Can't go wrong with this spot and it says something, I think, that they are beloved by tourists and locals alike.

Eat like a local and pay like a local! Great food at fair prices in the heart of town. Better than any of the tourist traps along the marina. We spent 3 days in Funchal during our time in madeira and came back 3x times. First for dinner and then again for 2 lunches. Great plates with generous servings of salad, rice and chips. Highlights include the steak special, roast pork and frango chicken burger. Staff were very warm and friendly and even gave us a free poncha to try at the end of our dinner. Amazing small place with great food and atmosphere. We’ve stopped here because of the heavy rain and stayed for lunch by coincidence and I have to say it was one of the best experiences during our stay at the island. All the food was fresh and tasty. It is not a posh restaurant meal but a decent comfort food which will make you feel like at home. It was so good we came here for lunch two more times each time ordering something different and each time leaving the place...
