Sunshine in Old Town Restaurant — Restaurant in Funchal

I recently dined at Sunshine restaurant and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Despite the restaurant's charming ambiance and friendly staff, I found the quality of the food to be below average and the prices to be exorbitantly high.

In fact, I must say that I was quite disappointed with the taste and presentation of the dishes that were served to me. The food lacked any real depth of flavor and seemed to be cooked in a hurry. In addition, I found the portion sizes to be smaller than expected given the high prices.

Furthermore, I couldn't help but feel like the restaurant was taking advantage of tourists by charging such high prices for such low quality food. It's a shame because the location and decor of the restaurant were quite lovely, but it was all overshadowed by the subpar cuisine.

Overall, I cannot recommend Sunshine restaurant based on my experience. If you're looking for a quality dining experience, there are many other options available in the area that offer better value...

We had dinner tonight at this restaurant after Marco, the waiter, convinced us to sit down explaining the menu that sounded amazing! He said that there's a set menu (15€, a bargain) and then he showed us the a la carte menu recommending the tuna which, lucky enough, was just what my partner was craving! We had the sardines toast and 2 chef's style tuna , all amazing. During our dinner, we enjoyed a lovely and funny conversation with Marco, always so attentive and interesting to talk to - really THE gem of this place. He also introduced us to the chef, Laura, such a lovely lady. Overall, a very very recommended experience , from the food to the wine and to the people working there giving 100% to make sure you have a great experience. We came because other waiter from across the street recommended. There was only one waitress (she was nice), but service is very slow. Entrees are small, meat and fish was overcooked. Enteees arrived quick, but We waited for PLATES about 20-30min, wine was opened about 20min later it arrived to the table. Price were way too expensive, the food was not worth it.
