Honest review!

The design and basis of the restaurant is pretty good. I am quite satisfied with my experience but I am also honest and critical. You deserve that as a reader.

To start:

Bread based on sweet potato was very tasty.

Aperitif / appetizer had little taste and texture of the promised squid. a greasy aftertaste of the sea. No distinction in taste elements unfortunately.

starter: Tuna had too much lemon acid. sweet balance tried to compensate with the orange pure. Was not enough as a counterpart. I miss a crispy, bite and some salt. Maybe Coconut cream, as my tip.

starter 2. Crispy Wanton. Was What awe and monotonous no taste explosion. Salad added little. Cardamom seeds sometimes too intense.

Main course Duck. Bit chewy tough. Vegetable nice and original matching. Spring roll / spring roll good but fried in old fat, I am not sure. Appetizing tasty. Sauce may be more powerful. Maybe with star anise.

Dessert Tasty hard cheeses! I only miss a blue-veined cheese such as roquefort. On one of the cheeses there was a small green mold spot on the crust!

Music was relaxed, but always the same playlist.

It has all the appearance of luxury food, but implementation is just lacking.

Staff is really 10/10 attentive, friendly, involved and professional.

I feel satisfied but...

Tucked away in a side street, this unique restaurant in Madeira offers a delightful culinary experience that stands out for its authentic flavours and quality. The establishment focuses on traditional Madeiran dishes, drawing inspiration from the island's rich history and the art of hospitality. The atmosphere is informal and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for both locals and visitors seeking a relaxed dining experience.

The menu is diverse, catering to various tastes while highlighting the best of Madeiran cuisine. Signature dishes include Espetada, skewered beef marinated with garlic and bay leaves, and Bolo do Caco, a delicious flatbread served with garlic butter. Seafood lovers can indulge in Caldeirada de Peixe, a savoury fish stew that showcases the island’s abundant marine resources.

Despite the exceptional quality and unique offerings, it's surprising that this gem has yet to gain international recognition. Diners can expect not just a meal but a journey through the flavours of Madeira, all served with a smile in a friendly environment. Whether you're a fan of traditional cuisine or looking to explore something new, this restaurant is certainly...

. Amazing place that we found by reviews on Tripadvisor. Out of cozy and posh interior it looks like a fine dinning place! We got there in the afternoon, and received a warm welcome to an inside garden. Quick service with lots of attention to details. We were served by Ms. Sandra. She was wonderful, informed us about a la carte and day lunch menu. Day lunch menu really surprised us.. Price for a starter, main dish and a dessert is ridiculous.. 12.50 €! And we thought it's gonna be couple bites, as per normal fine dinning places.. But the lunch was so rich and tasty, that I had to manage myself to finish ice-cream! Freshly baked bread with butter, Homemade soup, TWO duck legs with rice risotto and two scoops of delicious homemade ice-cream! Yummy! We also tried calamari with couscous, and rhubarb cake! Lovely! Aperol Spritz cocktails were amazingly flavoursome! We definitelly recommend this place to everyone! And thanks again, Sandra, for a great service and recommendations around Madeira island. Cheers!

Unfortunately does not deliver on an interesting-sounding menu. The food was all pretty but not great flavour. Service was a little too chatty. The tables are mostly outside. It got cold and after seeing another party seated inside we asked to move in but were just offered blankets, which was fine but not ideal. The chef needs to get Philadelphia cream cheese totally out of the menu. What a ridiculous idea. Madeira has cheese that doesn't trouble the world's food competitions but is far better than that. Why would you choose that industrial garbage over real local cheese? Outside of a cheesecake of course. We were given a fishy amuse-bouche (also included Philadelphia, couldn't be avoided) that I found rather chewy but my plate was removed before I could get rid of it discreetly, so I had to chew for minutes before it was finally swallowable.

Big, brave, bold menu that didn’t live up to our expectations. First thing to note, the staff were excellent. Our waiter answered lots of questions, served beautifully and was warm & smiley throughout. Our food…the tuna steak was beautifully cooked but served with boiled vegetables that just about anyone on earth could cook. A real missed opportunity. Rabbit overcooked to point it was mush-like and lacked any flavour. Pasta main drenched in oil. Dietary concerns over some dishes - we ordered a tuna steak, labelled as lactose free on the menu, to be advised by our waiter via the chef, that it did in fact contain dairy. The setting on the terrace is nicely created but the lighting should be upgraded. The harsh, cheap flood lightning is blinding for anyone facing the restaurant. They should be angled up / replaced with softer, yellow bulbs.
