I never thought I would ever write a review for a dish that was a huge disappointment. I can't even really rate it properly, because either the owner doesn't know what's going on in his kitchen, or those who give good ratings to the food have never eaten excellent food. And we have something to compare with, there were other restaurants in Portugal and all of them was amazing food! For example, in other restaurants the same tomato salad was peeled, beautifully cut, and with a good taste, then here it looks like something was cut and thrown on the plate. The owner recommended to take the calamari, that they are excellent, then I can say 100%, they were terribly overcooked, almost like coal, bitter taste and basically unpalatable. The tuna was also overcooked, but the craziest thing was the freshly pressed garlic, which took over all the taste. The white wine was warm! In welcoming the chef brought boiled carrots in the dish, incomprehensible. But we weren't the only ones confused by the food, there were 4 Germans at the next table who looked just as surprised as us. It's sad how badly cooked food can spoil the mood! We hope that the owner will taste the food prepared by his own cook and replace it (You can see in the pictures). We also hope that they will take this criticism into account and really improve their restaurant to 5 stars, only 1...
Read moreWe found this restaurant by pure coincidence when passing by and looking for a place to eat. This is a small restaurant where you won't find many tourists. Instead, it is a very typical local restaurant offering a variety of Portuguese meals. Besides us it was only locals eating there. However, the menu is also available in English and German. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They highlighted items from the menu and helped us choose the right meal. The steak and picanha we had were truly amazing! The portions were also great value for money. To top it off, the wine pairing and desserts were equally great. This hidden gem of Portuguese cuisine was a great find and we highly recommend you take a small walk from the city center and have some tasty lunch/dinner with a breath of...
Read moreThe best Lulas Fritas ever!
In my mind when I hear Lulas Fritas I translate it into, fried squid. Which I then translates into breaded squid that is deep fried. So I have ordered this dish many times at many restaurants and always remember too late that this is not breaded or deep fried. It's an ok dish by I have always forced myself to eat it.
This time was different. I'm not sure what is was, but it tasted amazing. It was plated just like every other restaurant, with a side of potatoes, some carrots and lettuce. But the sauce was on point and the squid was cooked perfectly. This restaurant is on the outside of the city surrounded by apartment blocks so it may be more of a local restaurant. It is still in the tourist area, just not...
