The food at this place is pretty decent for the price point, but the service is absolutely horrible.
This is my first time in Lisbon and we’ve had super friendly service and hospitality everywhere we’ve been. The treatment we got at this place however really ruined the end of our day. As I mentioned, the food was good and we were really happy until the end of our dinner, when our waiter knocked over a full glass of wine that spilled all over the table and over me, getting all over my clothes and white linen shirt. We just got a quick “so sorry” and when the waiter returned to clean up we asked if he could please get us another glass of the wine he spilled. He explained it was not possible because they didn’t sell the wine by glass, but that he would get us a similar wine instead. We ended up being poured half a glass of a completely different wine that we did not want. We told him that we should at the very least get the same wine we paid for, or not have to pay for the wine he spilled, but his response was “these things happen” and that kind of compensation “is not the way we do it in Portugal”. As someone who has worked a long time in the restaurant industry, I completely understand that these things happen (I’ve definitely spilled a glass of wine or two over guests in my career) but offering no form of compensation for clothes ruined or even the money back for the wine we never got to drink is completely unacceptable.
Such a shame that something that would’ve cost very little to compensate for ended in a really negative experience. If you’re looking for a good seafood restaurant in the neighborhood, you’re way better off walking a few meters down the road to Cervejaria Ramiro, where we had one of the best seafood dinners...
Read moreThe food was really delicious! We waited for around 15 mins which is definitely okay for the quality we had, the waiter will usually take ur name and you just wait for call back. We were three and ordered 12 oysters, one big crab (which is ard 0.5 kg) and a knifed clams with sauce. First they would serve the free bread, which is slightly warm and buttered. (Really advice you not to finish them as appetisers cuz dipping them in the sauce and spreading them with the crab bury are fabulous) Then the oysters were really fresh, tiny tiny bit of shells but its totally fine. It is more of a smoother than briny taste, with a hint of seawater saltiness, squeeze some lemon juice to balance it out, perfect for its price. (Ard 18€ per kilo) The big crab was really fresh as well. We really like the buey, i think they mix it with something to give some extra texture. The crab eat is also very chewy in a good way (QQ for asian readers) it was ard 29.5€ per kilo and our portion was only 12€ so i think they are really honest with the price. Then the knives clams were super fresh (again) and chewy and with a tint of natural sweetness. the sauce was ( i believe) cilantro, garlic and butter. The consistency is more like a broth than cream so the whole dish was refreshing and it is my personal favourite. For drinks we ordered sangria and cider, just normal sangria and coder you would get and its pretty cheap (1.6€) The service was nice! Would definitely come back again!! (We overheard some order customers that said the octopus / cod rod salad) The vibe is also like a neighbourhood lowkey restaurant so really...
Read moreGreat place not fancy and been there since 1973. Not the best service at first but once you understand how busy they are then is ok. We had our waiter every time and had flawless service. We went back 3 times this trip. No frills or fancy marketing just plain fresh and good seafood. If you are into prawns they have the gigantic tiger prawns full of roe which are great grilled but if you love the even further stronger bolder flavor try the gigantic carabineros (red prawns) recommended. If you love crab try the zapatero crab just cooked cold and they crack it for you which is a big part of the work or you can have the shell that us no work but it is mixed with the roe which i love but is not for everyone. Then if you want to try something special try percebes or barnicles. But now that we are in summer time you must get at least 200 grams of shrimp from algarve steamed with sea salt, only have to peel and the head has all the flavor. Never have tried such sweet savory and fresh taste of the sea. There are other things to eat which we tried the steak and fries and the fries are addictive as i think fried in peanut oil. Also now bogavantes ( live lobster with claws @50€ per kilo or 2.2 pounds is a good deal) All for all there are lots of stuff to try and eat. For dessert ask for the house made crème brûlée not the normal one is an insider’s thing. All you need is a healthy appetite, cholesterol and gout pills (LOL) and order a couple of glasses of sangria (1.6€) which is a deal. Come early as there are linea during peak hours. BTW stays...
