— I am writing to express my deep disappointment and indignation with the service I received at your café located at Campo de Santa Clara, Lisbon. On the morning of August 1st, 2024, at around 11:15 AM, I had an extremely unpleasant experience with the manager and one of the employees.
The manager is a Brazilian Portuguese speaker with curly hair, and the employee is a Spanish speaker.
The behavior I encountered was entirely unacceptable. The staff were disrespectful, ironic, arrogant, and rude, demonstrating a complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service skills. Despite my attempts to resolve the situation, the manager refused to provide his name, as did an employee who was particularly rude. When I asked for the complaint book, they responded by turning their backs on me, mocking me, and acting sarcastically.
I was especially disappointed to notice that the staff seemed to treat foreign customers more politely, while my experience as a local was anything but courteous. This type of discriminatory behavior is intolerable and reflects very poorly on your establishment. I want to express my frustration as well, with the absurdity of being served a sandwich with only a single slice of cheese, and the surreal prices charged. In Denmark, if I had asked for an extra slice of cheese on my sandwich, I wouldn’t have been charged for it. Here in Portugal, at Copenhagen Lab in Campo de Santa Clara, not only was I ridiculed for offering to pay for an additional slice, but here in Portugal I was charged...
Read moreWe stopped in and bought two drinks, which were decent though definitely on the pricier side. The real disappointment came when we asked for some milk for our 13-month-old. We paid for it, but what we received was a very small cup. When I asked if they could simply fill a small baby bottle instead—since we had already purchased drinks and paid for the milk—the man working there was surprisingly rude about it. He kept insisting, “that’s not how things work,” and practically yelling at me. He was extremely rude.
The reality is that an extra ounce or two of milk probably costs the business less than fifty cents. Refusing such a simple and reasonable request not only creates frustration in the moment, but also leaves customers with a bad impression. Small gestures of hospitality go a long way in building goodwill, while rigid and unfriendly service does the opposite. Unfortunately, this interaction left a sour note that overshadowed what could have been a...
Read moreIgnore the pretentious 1-star reviews. This location is right next to a major tourist area - it's no wonder it operates a bit differently than the others.
The line was about 10 people deep when we arrived but it moved quickly. Drinks came out quick, service was friendly and fast. I'd recommend against trying to work here - signs on the tables ask not to use computers (though several people here were on them when we arrived) - the place is a little bit cramped and you've got the noise of numerous tourists constantly throughout the day.
Only thing I ding points for is the atmosphere (busy, kinda cramped) and the price. You still pay 20% less than the same quality of food in other countries in Europe and North America but you'll find a better deal elsewhere if you're on a budget.
Grab a dirty chai and enjoy yourself on the terrace (if you can find a...
