I asked my parents to buy some coffee here for me during their trip to Lisbon, and the staff here overground the coffee making it essentially useless for my espresso machine. To top it off, I made the mistake of wanting to visit the branch during my recent trip to Lisbon hoping that their barista skills were better but I never got the chance to try them out as I was told that it wasn't their policy to take requests from their customers to add sugar to their coffee. I explained that the sugar doesn't dissolve (if added to the coffee after it's made rather than stirring it into the espresso shot) but the young lad taking my order at the till mockingly said he'd never heard of that before. He'd also never heard of Sidamo either even though a packet of the famous Ethiopian coffee was sitting on their shelves, staring at him in the face. It's quite disappointing as their coffee at the Portas de Santo Antão branch was pretty good, albeit weaker than what I'm used to. But then again, they do have different management and cleary better customer service. It's probably the first time I've ever written a fairly negative review for any cafe or eatery, or anywhere else in Lisbon as the Portuguese are some of the friendliest and most hospitable people you'll ever meet. And even though they were very polite in their unwillingness to provide me with very basic customer service, they still failed to assist me in what should have been such an easy and...
Read moreCoffee quality is slightly above average but not really remarkable. What disappointed me the most was the service. I ordered coffee (and a pastry) to go primarily because the place was busy when I was at the line, but as soon as I received the order, a table opened up so I took a seat so I could eat the pastry (Bear in mind that most of the other occupied tables were filled by people not eating or drinking anything actively (including one patron on a laptop). After a couple minutes, someone from the staff asks us "you have ordered this to go, so if you don't mind leaving there are other people waiting..." like really? It's not like the prices are different to go vs to stay, or that you have a formal seating system, nor we are talking about a seat down restaurant. This is a coffee shop. If you really want tables, you should consider approaching the people sitting there for over half an hour without consuming anything instead of the ones that sat up just five minutes ago. Or, alternatively you should create a formal seating process (pick a number for instance). What you should not be doing is randomly picking which customers you should ask to leave or stay. A little bit of common sense would...
Read moreWhen I walked on the street nearby on a rainy morning back on June with my friends, someone stole the euros from my backpack . I was shocked at the moment and looking for something sweet to comfort my heart, and we bumped into this coffee place.
They served good coffee and simple menu. Was curious what beans they used, but was too anxious at the moment and didn’t check with the staff. Granola in yogurt is thick and sweet, exactly what I was looking for. Egg tart is average. I did heal myself a little bit here under the tranquil ambience and my little friend told me I should not blame myself about a mistake committed by somebody else.
A bit tip to the international travelers in Lisbon, do not bring too much cash, most places are credit card friendly. please be extra careful to your surroundings, and try to avoid backpacks if you can. A huge lesson...
