Dear staff at Flores da Pampa. A couple of weeks ago, two friends and I had an distressing evening speaking to one of your employees before closing time. I’m not sure if this guy was the co-owner or not, but he declared to be one of them and told us his name was Mike from London (sounded dutch though)- also a part time DJ. It turned out he was also a full-time conspiracy theorist and extremist, who advocated for violence in the name of ”the truth”. What started out as a pleasant conversation turned out into a very unpleasant and aggressive lecture and insults. It was ongoing yapping about how brainwashed and weak we and everyone else are who have trust or thrive in ”the system”. COVID-19 was a hoax, Putin was a good guy, Zelensky a bad one, all vaccines are dangerous (and have implanted satellite chips in everyone), illuminati controls the world, all research is fabricated, all media, news and sources are fake…and so forth. Only the ”true source” and the ”only truth” can come from a community called ”The Light”. This is a community that for example denies that the Holocaust occurred. We tried to challenge his uncritical thinking but were met by responses like ”I hope you wake up one day”, ”you can’t handle a man telling you the truth”, ”you’re sheep and you have no balls”. Racist and sexist slurs were ongoing. He actively vouched for and admitted to being a extremist, because this the only way to do it if you want to ”overthrow the system”. While everyone has a right to their own beliefs, pro-violence and spreading hate is alarming, unacceptable, and nevertheless a intolerable way to treat your customers. We are worried about this man’s hateful opinions, and it feels necessary to make you aware about this, as we are genuinely concerned that this man may do something violent in the name of his radical...
Read moreFlores de Pampa is a cozy restaurant in a unique place: in the center of Lisbon (in the Bairro Alto district).
Immediately upon arrival you will be welcomed in a warm atmosphere with nice staff who are happy to tell you about the restaurant and the dishes.
You can eat there early (for Portuguese standards), but what this restaurant offered us was a great idea. If you want to have a drink first, you can order a drink from the waiter/bar and you can take your beer glass and wine glass (or the whole bottle) to the park (Jardim Fialho de Almeida) opposite of the restaurant. There you can enjoy the fresh air for a while before you go to the table.
When you come back to your table, you will receive a small but detailed menu with all tasty dishes on it. You can take this as a standard dish for yourself, but like us you can also change it to a tapas dinner (see photos). This was a fun and atmospheric solution from the staff and we are very excited about it.
However, there are some downsides that I should mention. It was very hot, despite the outside temperature. Especially in the toilets it was really sweating. Furthermore, the music was nice and mellow, but way too loud. Having normal conversations was actually not possible and this is the reason why I give 4 stars instead of 5. We've asked the staff to lower the volume multiple times, but they did not.
Still, I must say that I really enjoyed the visit to Flores da Pampa. I would definitely go there again and I will definitely recommend it to...
Read moreI’m going to give an honest review. The food and the vibes are genuinely amazing. Like 9.5/10 good. However, their staff is something else. I have been to flores de pampa almost 10 times now. Like at this point I feel I can say I was a happy regular PAYING customer (or was planning on becoming a regular customer) that was going to this place almost twice a week for the past month whether it’s for brunch or their jazz nights (emphasis on PAYING customer because I ALWAYS paid for my food). I had the terrible experience of going to flores de pampa paying for a couple of drinks and a meal up front only to be chased after by one of their staff and basically be accused of "forgetting to pay for my food" (stealing) and showing my apple wallet statement to this person in the street even though I shouldn’t have proved anything because my payment was in their system. They apologized but the damage had already been done because that was genuinely a humiliating experience. On their part, I really cannot seem to understand that with the witnesses and the staff that rung me up, how for a place that seems put together can be so disorganized and miss someone paying for their food and accuse them of not paying. I genuinely hope that no one ever has to experience this ever and that this place will do much better or put something in place of their workflow to never humiliate a regular customer like...
