Honest Greens - Where the Food is Clean, the Vibes are Green, and the Steak is Still a Star
Let’s be real - Lisboa isn’t exactly known for restraint when it comes to food. So stumbling upon Honest Greens in Cais do Sodré feels like finding a leafy little oasis in a desert of creamy cod and custard tarts. It’s immense, it’s minimalist, and it’s got that Scandi-meets-eco-warrior aesthetic - think exposed beams, clean lines, neon signs that whisper “you’re doing great,” and just the right number of potted plants to make you feel like your chakras are aligning.
The menu reads like a love letter to your gut health - is ethically sourced, organic when possible, and free from the usual suspects (preservatives, additives, refined sugars, and general food drama). But don’t worry, it’s not preachy. It’s just honest. Like the name says. We ordered three market plates - because moderation is for Mondays. The steak chimichurri (grass-fed, free-range, and probably listened to jazz in the fields), the tuna tataki (sustainably caught and smug about it), and the honest salmon (which tasted like it had a good childhood). Each came with a fresh salad and microgreens that looked like they were picked by moonlight and kissed by forest fairies.
And the taste? It shows. You can taste the quality, the care, and the fact that someone in the kitchen probably talks to the vegetables before plating them.
Verdict: Honest Greens is where you go when you want to eat well, feel good, and still have room for a pastel de nata later. It’s healthy without being boring, ethical without being smug, and delicious without compromise. Highly recommended for when your body says “salad” but your soul still...
Read moreI ordered a coffee and sat in the main seating area with my laptop, noting that there were NO visible signs on any of the free tables stating that laptops were not permitted. After a short while, a member of staff told me to move, explaining that laptops weren't permitted in that area, only in the coffee shop area or outside. I said that there were no signs stating this, and he picked up a sign from a table that was previously occupied. I said that isn't sufficient to inform everyone. I precariously moved my coffee and laptop to the coffee area, but there were no free seats and none outside either, so I sat as close to the coffee area as possible. Again, a member of staff told me to move - I explained that I had already been asked to move once and there were no free tables in the dedicated area, adding that the fault is Honest Greens' for not marking laptop restrictions appropriately. She did not understand or care so I shut my laptop and left. I am really upset because I am a regular at various Honest Greens locations around Lisbon - I get a coffee from one of them most days and eat there at least once a week. I understand why they restrict laptops and I have no problem with that, they just need to be clear to avoid ruining someone's experience. I am not someone who sits there for hours and hours with a laptop either, I was planning to stay less than an hour. What a shame - guess I'll have to go...
Read moreHonest Greens is a sustainable, health conscious chain restaurant in Portugal. Honest Greens is a great location for both vegetarians and non vegetarians as there are lots of meat and veggie options. Honest Greens was huge and had lots of nice seating and it also has an adjacent cafe called Honest Beans!
I got the piri piri chicken and the Chimichurri steak. I also got some of the strawberry lemonade which had barely any added sugar and tasted great! There was lots of strawberry seeds in the drink and lots of lemon juice so it tasted that much fresher! The piri piri chicken was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The chicken was incredibly tender and the piri piri seasoning went great with the chicken. The salad that it came with also tasted so fresh even with basic ingredients. Honest Greens also provides extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar for your salad and for your dishes. My favorite part of Honest Greens was that it was seed oil free so almost everything was cooked with olive oil native to Portugal which heightened the flavor of EVERY dish. The Chimichurri steak was somewhat mid compared to the chicken. It wasn’t cooked very well as it was still pretty chewy and there wasn’t enough Chimichurri sauce for the amount of steak.
Overall I really loved Honest Greens because of its health conscious meals, aesthetic interior, and its plenty options I would definitely recommend Honest...
