Quite disappointed. One star is also probably too much. First thing, poor customer service, more than half the staff doesn’t even know the cuisine; there is no Mexican positivity. Next thing, Half the items in the menu are not available; if you cannot have ingredients round the year, better to have them seasonal than a permanent print in the ever long menu. One doesn’t expect to eat packages tortillas in a Mexican place for the lovely tacos. Lastly, even the churros felt like they missed the care, love and affection for their culture; I felt like I am eating oil. The place should consider a reset button otherwise consider themselves dead sooner (than later).
Adding further since the owner responded and felt I am lying, it’s not the case. I had four staff people approach the table out of only one really knew the food. That’s still 3 out of 4, not aware about the cuisine. And sure, I respect and appreciate the hard work the staff are putting into even after been through immense hard work, I still feel they can be cordial or welcoming. About the menu items, again the world of shut, it’s fair to have a shorten menu with less items; only three beers out of 6 (or 8) on the menu were available. Then on the food items as well it was a similar story. For the positive, I really think the place could do justice; they have it to make it better otherwise I won’t leave a review. I am not the type of customer who would lie around. I did mention it to one of the staff members about the churros, he did get us another one which was slightly better but still not decent for a pure Mexican place. Anyway, apologies if you felt the review was harsh; but surely not lying. You ought to trust the customer...
Read moreThe food was okay but it took them 1 hour to serve a burrito. And way too long to bring beer. The worst however is when I ordered a mock tail (the waiter didn't know the ingredients, it was called Berrylita so I had to guess it had berries but he was not sure). They brought me a drink that had alcohol in it! I am 9 months pregnant! This is a complete no-go. The waiters were extremely incompetent, they didn't know the menu, but they also didn't know that there's a page in the menu explaining what are the ingredients of each meal. They could not give relevant recommendations. I don't recommend this place for vegans as it's not safe that the food is actually vegan, for example they have churros for desert with vegan chocolate as an option, however no one there could answer me if the churro itself is vegan...
When they did bring the food finally, they were giving one of us the meat burrito of our friend (we specifically made sure to put together a vegan burrito). Another no-go.
One of the worst restaurant experiences I had and it's not even because of the food. How about you pay your employees a fair salary so they are more motivated/get actually competent staff? And make sure they at least know what's on the menu. It's crazy that none...
Read moreI come from the land of Tex-Mex and was thrilled to see a Mexican restaurant in bacalhau country. The menu looked very inviting and had a good selection of vegetarian options (as any good Tex-Mex menu should). I went in with some trepidation as one can't always predict how a cuisine, exported out of it's comfort zone into a different land would turn out. I must say I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. I ordered a veggie burrito and a tofu totopos and the highlight for me were the salsas (especially the mayos - homemade garlic and vegan chipotle). I ordered takeaway but the 15 minutes I spent inside waiting for my order gave me the impression that this place wasn't lacking for ambience. Being a takeaway person more than a dine-in person, and having had an infuriating experience trying to bridge the language gap to explain my preference in Madrid once, I was especially pleased to see a very clear neon sign in large lettering that said 'LLEVARESE'.
This was my last meal in central Lisbon and it served as a worthy bookend to my first meal (at Jardim das Cerejas)....
