My husband and I came across Nonna's while walking down the street close to our air bnb. It looked so inviting, we decided to try it, and we are so glad we did. Manuel, the owner, welcomed us warmly, and after seating us, brought us a welcome drink of Prosecco. What a wonderful start! We ordered the garlic bread starter, and then I had the spaghetti con vongole and my husband had the spaghetti with shrimp, salmon, and mushrooms in a tomato cream sauce. Both were outstanding! . They brought extra bread to make sure we could get all the sauce completely. Oh yes, very important, you would not want to miss a bite! The red wine was a very large pour and a great accompaniment. We were completely and too satisfyingly full to order dessert, but Manuel brought us a small tiramisu to try, and oh my, it was the best! (And believe me, we have had tiramisu throughout Italy on many occasions.) We loved this restaurant so much, we decided to come back the next night. This time we added the bruschetta with tomato and mozarella to our starter, I had a dry white wine this time, and it too was generously poured and just right. Since we hadn't eaten since breakfast, we decided to try two desserts this time, the tiramisu and the cheesecake - both fantastic! And it was accompanied by a gift of port wine - perfect. The conviviality of the other guests was contagious, and Manuel's gracious and warm hospitality set the tone for two of the most memorable evenings we had during our 5 day stay in Lisbon. Honestly, we thought about coming back for the third evening, but decided it would be good to expand our pallet for our last night. On our way home to our bnb that night, we stopped out front of Nonna's and looked in. Manuel saw us, waved, and though the restaurant was full, so we couldn't go in (our thought was to into try the nonna cake for a dessert) he came out and gave us a piece of the cake to take home with us. We will never forget Nonna's and its owner, Manuel, and urge you to go and see for yourself. You will be...
Read moreWent here 2x, first for early dinner and the second time was for proper dinner time. Overall very pleased with the service, quality of food, and price. Something that you would love to have in one restaurant.
The first night we’ve ordered 2 glasses of beer 1 house red wine Spaghetti Contadino Scaloppina Al Pepe Verde (Pork Loin with Green Pepper Sauce) Tiramisu Cheesecake Total Price: 33.20€
The second time, tonight’s dinner, we’ve ordered 2 glasses of beer 1 house red wine Lasagna Filleto de Manzo (Grilled Chunk of Veal with veggies) Tiramisu Cheesecake Total Price: 46.40€
The ambiance is very cozy, romantic for dinner, and a very welcoming feeling of an Italian restaurant - I guess the lights they’re using a sort of making you feel relaxed as it’s the darker ambiance. Very friendly staff
Quality and Portion of food - first night we’re very pleased with everything including the waiting time and how they serve each dish - everything served at the same time. We both loved the pasta and meat we’ve ordered along with desserts and my red wine - totally enjoyed it.
As for the second night, everything went well except for the doneness of the veal. It was first served almost rare in the inside that I’ve asked the guy to cook it more, though the waiting time wasn’t too long, I didn’t get the medium doneness I want, I didn’t bother it much for the second time 😊. Because overall, we both had enjoyed our meals, the service, and price-wise - really a good deal. They’re generous with the portion of wine as well that made me happy, and it’s a good wine. Oops, don’t forget the desserts, my fave is the cheesecake, but my hubby enjoyed the tiramisu.
Well recommended Italian restaurant to try when you’re around this area or when you want to explore further Italian restaurant that worth the walk or the drive 😊
Thank you for making my bday dinner...
Read moreOkay… food was not terrible… it did its job and fed us. We originally decided to try it because even though it was empty, the reviews were good. The waiter although very kind, is an EXCELLENT sales man. We asked for a dry white wine, he selected a medium priced wine, that was not dry at all and when we looked it up, it is a 6 euro bottle we paid 26 euro for. Other red flags included: -suggesting one of the more expensive meals without us asking for suggestions -telling us the credit card machine may not work after us ordering the wine -telling us the credit card machine was down before anyone else in the restaurant’s tried to pay and without even letting us try the machine -and THEN! When we told him we only had our credit card (because we were at the beach prior and only brought that with us), the waiter was visibly upset we could not pay in cash Three minutes later his friend magically had a machine that worked -also there was mostly and only Americas who showed up after us :( nice people who also fell into the trap…
This was one of our most expensive and most disappointing meals in Portugal and I am writting this review to hopefully save some others the experience we had. Felt like a sneaky tourist...
