One of the coziest cutest and most traditional restaraunts I have ever been in. The place is so small and it’s also really popular adding to its exclusivity. It is a cute family run business with the husband working the tables and the wife making the empanadas in the kitchen. The restaraunt had a sort of wavy sandstone theme which I loved. In a prime location located right on the Bica funicular Empanar really starts getting busy after 7:30.
Now for food we ordered spicy beef, traditional chicken, and the prawns empanadas with spicy chimichurri. Everything just tasted so fresh and just wholesome. Our empanadas were made with whole wheat adding to the satisfying feeling after eating. The chicken was so tender in a beschamel sauce with the exterior of the empanadas being crispy and the inside having a delicious creamy filling. The chicken was my favorite then the spicy beef which had a beef and potato filling that was just so filling and it had a little kick. Again the meat was cooked to perfection. Lastly, the prawns for me were ok as even though they were cooked really well and tasted great the empanada was a little too liquidy which irked me a bit. The spicy chimichurri was necessary to make the meal complete. It was so refreshing with fresh parsley and olive oil. It also added a little kick with its spicy chimichurri.
OVERALL, for its cozy and lovely vibe with its exclusivity and delicious dishes Empanar is a must go. Just try to come a little earlier for dinner to avoid the crowds as the restaraunt is small and can’t have too...
Read moreStunning and delicious at the same time! I would say this would be a must try in Lisbon! Not only is the decor and ambiance sexy and warm, the food is delectable.
I happened to be passing by b/c I decided to do my own food tour around Lisbon. I would say this is already on my Top 5 list in Lisbon.
What I tried:
Chicken empanada Pistachio empanada Mocktail - Passionfruit with orange juice
I slowly enjoyed the chicken empanada and it was so tasty, full of flavor, and moist. The potatoes were also cooked to perfection. I chose the pistachio for my desert and it had fresh and finely chopped pistachios blended into a sweet cream filling. Both were unexpectedly good.
What I appreciated was the honesty of the bartender when I went to select the newest cocktail, he suggested I try another one because we haven’t perfected it just yet.
Empanadas may look the same but they’re not all created equal. I’m sure the same goes anywhere else.
Even the Argentinean woman next to me at the bar who makes empanadas at home expressed how delicious her truffle empanada was.
Bottom line, don’t pass this one by just because you think it’s going to be just another empanada. Because it is not!
To top it off, the service was just as amazing! Absolutely a must try even if you take it to go, you won’t be disappointed! I can’t wait to...
Read moreThis easy to miss yet unmissable micro-bistro focuses on serving only Empanadas and it does it very well indeed. As you enter, you step down into what I can only desbribe as a partially subterranean grotto. The walls made to look like it's a cave that's been hand cut. Warm sandy colours and simple decoration - it reminded me of Luke Skywalkers house! It's quite a fun atmosphere sitting inside with the famous trams rolling past the door. Owner gave a warm welcome and served me an ice cold beer - menu caters for all tastes, meat, vegetarian and vegan. The Empanadas are modestly sized and absolutely delicious, you can taste the care that has gone into making them. I visited for lunch, one Empanada is a good size for a light lunch/snack. If you're hungry I would recommend ordering at least...
