Walk in - and enjoy a fleeting moment of Lisbon’s culinary spirit that’s easy on the wallet. I had no idea that Anthony Bourdain once stopped by this joint, and only walked in as I was thirsty for a cold Sangre beer after a lengthy tour through the hilly, narrow streets of the nearby Alfama district. Nestled on a busy street filled with tourists, I was quite surprised that I was able to find a table as soon as I walked in on a hot afternoon. If there’s no tables and if you came alone, you could stand and eat at the counter just like the other Portuguese do - it’ll only take a couple of minutes. The food is designed to be a grab and go kind of deal.
I ordered two Bifanas (pork sandwiches - a must!), a bowl of chicken soup, a croquette and two beers. The food was simple, but the taste was AMAZING. Simplicity never tasted so good before. I experimented with various condiments for every bite of the Bifana - mustard, chili oil, mayonnaise, sometimes all three - and all were good. And I got to sit right across from where Anthony Bourdain once sat. It was truly a moment where I felt that everything in the universe aligned itself, and it only cost me €12. The beers alone amounted to half of that.
By the way, this place is cash only. Don’t wave your...
Read moreDefinitely the best bifana we had in Lisboa! While during our research on where we needed to visit / eat / drink we learned that Anthony Bourdain came here and recommended it… so, we most definitely needed to try it! Not much room for indoor dining. I’d say maybe about 3 long tables that sit 6 each. We landed in Lisboa after an 8 hour flight and needed food. This was the first place we came to eat at. Tables were full so we stood up at the counter and ate our bifana and drank the local beer. They go hand in hand such a great combination. If you like spice and heat. Ask for the hot oil! It’s absolutely incredible on the bifana! Yes, if the tables are full, you can stand and eat at the counter. They do have a couple tables outside. Definitely try your best to speak Portuguese. Even if you need to use google translate. The Portuguese people will appreciate it! We tried our best and the waitress was super appreciative and happy that we did. You can tell when she smiled after we tried! It’s cash only so bring cash. The second time we went, we remembered after we ordered. There is an atm about a block away at the bank. 5 stars! Would recommend to anyone asking where they...

O Trevo was a revelation! We initially stopped in for a quick beer, but the sight of their bifanas being served up was too tempting to resist. I dove in and was instantly hooked. The pork was flavorful and perfectly cooked, making it the best bifana I've ever had. It was so good, in fact, that we ended up returning every day for lunch or a snack.
The menu offered both pork and beef bifanas. While both were delicious, the pork truly stole the show for me. My brother, however, ventured beyond the bifanas and raved about their juicy burger made with a homemade patty. Everything here was very reasonably priced, making it an even more attractive option.
But the true stars of O Trevo were the guys working the counter. Despite the constant hustle and bustle of this popular spot, they somehow managed to keep everything under control, taking orders and delivering food with impressive efficiency and a smile. The atmosphere was lively and fun, adding to the overall experience.
If you're looking for delicious, affordable food and a taste of Lisbon's energetic spirit, O Trevo is a must-visit! Just be prepared to get hooked on...
