Shelter Bar — Restaurant in Lisbon

The staff can learn a thing or two about friendly and non-racist service from the Finalement Club down the road. I ordered a white wine, which was not served cold. Another group of men at the bar, who were also having some white wine asked for some ice in their wine. When I asked for some ice in my wine, the bar man launched into a tirade about how "I should never ask for ice in my wine, and if I did that in Italy, I would be kicked out of the bar!" When I asked him why he didn't say the same thing to the other customers who had also asked for ice in their white wine, he said "they are our neighbours". My husband and I were recently visiting Portugal to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We discovered Shelter Bar via a quick Google Search. Hands down this place is great, we immediately felt like family when we arrived. The staff was kind enough to give us some really great advice on places to go and things to do in both Lisbon & Porto. We managed to hit some really great places based on their advice! We went to Shelter bar both on our first visit to Lisboa and upon our return from Porto & Algarve and the reception was the same. Great and gracious. While there we met 2 fellows from Portland, OR while we were there and this was their return trip to Shelter Bar which goes to show just how great of an establishment this really is. From the moment we walked into Shelter on our first day in Lisbon, we were greeted with such warmth and friendliness! It instantly set the tone for the rest of our trip. The atmosphere is super welcoming and really encourages conversation, whether you're with friends or flying solo.

Huge shoutout to Amadeo, Sebastian, Moses, and the entire staff; not only did they give us amazing recommendations throughout our stay, but they also remembered us each time we came back which was often. You can tell they genuinely care and take interest in the people who walk through the door.
