1st off. We are from Canada and was recommended this restaurant of the owners of our Airbnb up the street (C and C). This was our 1st nice meal in Lisbon
We were greeted by a stern looking lady who led us to a nice window seat. The restaurant is small, cozy, with just a few tables. One large table was reserved and the rest were empty.
Once seated, the lady plopped a basket of breads., little mason jars of olives, cheese and ? We asked for glasses of wine which were promptly served to us.
For appetizer we had the garlic shrimp, which was delicious and de-shelled, which was perfect. My partner had the chicken and risotto and I had the duck with sauce and squash. All the food was wonderful. Portion sizes were appropriate for this type of dining.
We had eaten and left. All good.
Upon review of the bill, we noticed that the bread, the little olives and cheese and water were all charged. It was not the charge but the lady didn’t have the courtesy to ask us before plopping them on the table. Yes, it is customary to pay for these but, please ask before plopping them down and then charging us.

My family and I arrived in Lisbon for a quick visit, and on our last night, we reserved a table at Trivial after reading many of the positive reviews. We were instantly greeted by a friendly staff member (Ana) and over the course of our meal, got the pleasure of meeting the chef & owners (Chef Jose and Christina).
From accommodations to our food allergies, to recommendations and wine pairings, the friendly service and ✨impossibly delicious✨ food, everything about our visit was more than we could’ve imagined from a place we happened to stumble across upon our Google search.
I would recommend Trivial to anyone I knew who was visiting Lisbon and seriously how you get to experience the flavours of this authentic Portuguese restaurant!
We had:
-the olives, bread and goat cheese on the table (seriously, the best olives I’ve ever had and I’m Italian), the octopus dish, the chicken dish, the 4 pepper steak and the sea bass-paired with either white or red wine depending-both of which made for the perfect combinations. For dessert, we had the chocolate mouse, lemon gelato with vodka and crème brûlée, alongside port wine. Would absolutely recommend any of these dishes.
Enjoy and best wishes Christina, Jose and Ana!

Read moreFood is average, that spinach looked like ruminated grass and bread was stale. Be careful of the cover, they bring you little jars of very expensive olives, bits of cheese and fava beans. The latter two were €4.50 each! We never asked for it but since they were on the table, we thought we give it a try and we later learnt that these were extras (expensive ones). We literally just tried out of curiosity and didn't like them. We didn't realise how expensive they were! The lady who served us wasn't very nice, she got a bit unpleasant when we asked what those extras on the bill were...overall not a nice experience. They should be more transparent...
