Tourists avoid. Local place which gives preference to locals. Cheap food which was decent, but nothing special other than good prices. Main issue is the waiter would avoid eye contact. He was quick to attend to locals, who got their food almost instantly, unlike us. He even walked away while we were mid-sentence placing our order, and didn't come back until the locals next to us helped us out. Later on tried to order another drink, which became impossible as our waiter ignored us after many attempts to make eye contact, and other waiters said to ask our waiter. Owner or manager person (seemed senior) seemed nice, but was too busy to micromanage our not so good waiter (fair enough). We also ordered (in Portuguese) a smaller dish, received the bigger one and were charged extra, disputed it but they refused to charge the lesser amount.
Other places are a happy medium between tourist traps and this place.
Edit to reply to owner: You focusing on one small part of my review (the snails) is proof you had no idea of the bad experience we had. Your waiter left to serve other guests while we were mid-sentence placing our order. Completely unacceptable behaviour. If you want to improve, be open to criticism, don't...
Read moreThe experience was awful. I was waiting in front of the restaurant to be seated and had to ask someone to show me a table. After that, I waited for some time until I started realizing that all the tables were being served with bread, butter, and starters, which is something very traditional in Portugal, while I was being ignored. I had to beg the waiter to give me the menu, and after some time, I asked for some bread and butter, Grilled Codfish, and water. The starter didn't arrive, despite other tables being served properly. My food took a long time to arrive, and since I was being ignored, I decided to ask the waiter if my order was okay, but he responded very rudely. Finally, the codfish arrived, and I must say that it was delicious and very well prepared. Due to the terrible service, I decided to skip dessert, quickly paid, and left. It was clear that I was not welcome there, and I felt like I was being judged Thanks to the different service between me and other customers. I will give this restaurant a second chance before concluding that I was victim of a very strong word that I shall not use it without being certain of what...
Read moreReally great restaurant, I got this tip from a very friendly local couple I met. Its not in one of the tourist areas, so you will mostly find locals - staff does speak english well enough that you can understand each other
First you are served a small platter consisting of some delicious cheese, some fish pathe’s and also one piece of bread.
I wrongly assumed that these were maybe on the house since you don’t see the prices of them when served (unless maybe you look in the menu with them in front), but the prices are really reasonable so its not a very big issue
I ordered a steak(Espetada Vita) and some fries and it was good, although at first it was somewhat undercooked - a problem which got solved effortlessly, so nothing to complain. I also had dessert, a delicious Sobremesa at the recommendation of the very friendly Laura, my waiter
Overall for a full course meal (some appetizers + main meal + dessert) I paid 21euros, so especially for the price it is easily 4.5+/5.
Points to improve: I think it would be transparent to know the prices of the...
