We walked past this restaurant for a week. It was always busy, so we stopped here early one evening for dinner. They have live fish, crabs and lobster in tanks in the restaurant.
We had a bottle of still water, with freshly squeezed orange juice, apple juice and a small bottle of red wine. For food we had a chicken kebab with square potatoes, spaghetti bolognese and fried halibut with vegetables and potatoes.
Before our main meal arrived they brought us some bread rolls with butter, fish paste and a mixture of tuna, mayonnaise and spring onion. This was delicious, I'm going to make this when I get home.
Service was impeccable and professional. The staff are very talkative and have friendly genuine banter. The drinks and food came quickly. Everything tasted fresh and the right amount of spice used.
I noticed they had apple pie in the cabinet on my way back from the toilet, which was clean. I had warm apple pie with ice cream, this was delicious 😋. Apple pie tastes better warm and my husband's son had chocolate mousse.
We paid nearly €90 euros for the three of us.
I definitely recommend going to Ostra D'Ouro 5 ⭐ for everything!
I've tried to post videos of the food we ate, but Google won't let me! Sort out you're AI bot Google...
Read moreI'd eaten at Ostra D'Ouro several years ago and was impressed by the quality of the food at the time. Since then, the restaurant has had a makeover, and the lobster tank has been removed.
We visited here recently, mainly to try the seafood platter. As was the case previously, the waiters were smartly dressed and knowledgible about the various dishes.
We started with sliced Ibérico ham, and oysters au gratin. The ham lived up to expectations and was delicious. The oysters definitely weren't au gratin, but nevertheless were really tasty, enhanced by a nice combination of herbs.
The seafood platter for two was extensive, with a generous number of grilled lobsters, oysters, and two types of prawns (grilled tiger and boiled Quarteira); the latter being served separately in a rich garlic butter sauce. Also served separately were the clams à Bulhão Pato and this really was the stand out dish for us.
All of this was washed down with a full bodied bottle of Rocim white wine that was recommended to us by the sommelier and paired well with the seafood.
This was never going to be a cheap meal, but it was really well worth the money and I will be going back to this restaurant on my next visit...
Read moreWe had two nights for dinner at Ostra D'Ouro. The service was very slow on the first evening but our food was good. On the second evening the food was cold and mediocre. The waiters all have big smiles, and encourage costumers to have a massive jar of home made sangria, with most getting drunk very quickly. Some tables around us then had bills which come with "mistakes". So, take care if you like to drink a lot. On our last night they increased our bill by adding an extra bottle of wine. The tall guy who managed and prepared the bills, often disappeared after giving the wrong bill for the waiters to take to a table. It looked like he was trying to deceive customers. Then we needed to wait a long time for them to correct our bill, I think they hoped we'd pay it if they left it long enough. Vila Moura has many good restaurants, if you appreciate good food and honest service Ostra D'Ouro isn't the...
