It was a shame, we came to have a good night celebrating my friends’ Hen party but left with a sour taste. We booked well in advance, and paid a deposit. Also at this point I advised that 1 of 3 of us had dietary requirements (being a vegetarian) and I was told that wouldn’t be a problem at all, it would be noted and then just to remind the staff on arrival. So upon arrival we were told that the set menu was the set menu, and that it just meant that one of us had limited options and to avoid the meat dishes. No alternatives given. The food was nice enough, it was just a shame that they couldn’t cater for a simple dietary requirement when we were advised it wouldn’t be a problem. When you are paying €40 per head, you would expect that should one of you not eat meat that something else would be offered, especially seeing as we had given notice of this. We were told on reservation that we would have the table for 2 hours, however after 1.5 hours we were asked if we could leave the table so other guests could be seated. They said this after we had just ordered more drinks, so we were left awkwardly standing next to the table we were just sat at. It felt really rude and pushy, and if that was their plan then why let us spend more money buying drinks when really they wanted us to leave. So we decided to settle the bill. We had paid a deposit to cover all our food when securing the booking, however we were then told we had to pay that again and then be refunded our deposit in the next week. They also didn’t believe we had paid the deposit and I had to go through my emails to prove this. Obviously this isn’t the way a deposit usually works, and another member of staff then came over to say no we can just pay for the drinks as we had already covered food. But then when we paid via cash they couldn’t give us any change and again we were left wondering why this service was so bad. Luckily, Vilamoura has some really great restaurants and bars so we took our business elsewhere, but I would definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting for sheer lack of...
Read moreA group of friends and I have been visiting Vilamoura for several years, and our first trip to Thai Beach Club was 8 years ago. We came for lunch and all agreed the food and service was exceptional.
We booked to go again last weekend. There were 9 of us in our group, so you have to book several months in advance as it is so popular. Around a month ago, payment for the set menu was taken in advance from the credit card we registered with the booking. We were a little surprised by this as they have never previously done this, but accepted it as we knew we were not going to cancel and businesses need to protect themselves from no shows.
The restaurant and bar area was packed full. I would say it was over-crowded. There were several hen parties and large groups in attendance. The food was sadly disappointing and lacklustre. Far from the standard we experienced in previous years. Our waitress however, who was run off her feet, was attentive, friendly and helpful and was always there when we needed drinks etc.
When the bill arrived, I noticed that we had been charged for the set menu again. I obviously disputed this and the Manager was called over. He stated that the advance payment was only a "pending" payment and it would be cancelled when the bill was paid at the restaurant. I re-iterated that the payment had already been made, but he refused to accept this, so I had no option but to pay again. Three days later, we eventually had a refund. For a large group, an over-payment of over 300 euros is unacceptable. The payment was not pending. The payment was taken.
If you are a large hen party looking for a great evening in an over-crowded bar, with average food and don't mind being charged twice, then I would say this is what you are looking for. If however, you are looking for good music, great food and service then I would think twice about choosing this venue on a Saturday evening. Sadly, we won't...
Read moreWow where do I start… firstly I hate leaving negative reviews but if it wasn’t for victor this place would be probably the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. Upon arriving the atmosphere felt great, an amazing setting and good vibe but, from then on in it was probably one of the most soul destroying nights of my life. It took 40 minutes to get menus, we were served by an arrogant guy in a suite who could barely look at us let alone crack a smile. Then the cocktails arrived and were top draw. The prices for everything are inflated here which is fine if you are going to get served top quality food but, it’s safe to say.. that we didn’t. In fact we were served Asda style starter platter fresh from the freezer. Cheap tasteless and barely enough food to feed an ant. We thought only the mains could get better however… we were served food that tasted nothing like Thai food. The final nail in the coffin was the rice. Coconut rice that was stone cold undercooked and resembled rice pudding. It was truly sickening that a chef would send that it out. Of course it was sent back and then they brought more rice that we tried straight away infront of the waiter and yet again it was stone cold. The waiter to his credit was truly mortified. Even he knew how bad it was and he was so apologetic and clearly cared. He was genuinely upset and embarrassed which is a testament to how good he was. He then offered us free desserts and a bottle of wine which was a kind gesture. The vibe here was trying to be upmarket but, it just really wasn’t. Seriously I have no idea how this place has good reviews. This was not a coincidence they are clearly serving up cheep muck and only thriving because of the cool vibe. Other than Victor our group agreed this was a solid 1/10 and believe me we are normally easily pleased. Next time I’ll just pop to Iceland and get the same food for 1/20th of the price....
