Isko — Restaurant in Matosinhos

We went there in the late morning, just to visit the market. We did not manage to have a breakfast so seeing small, tiny restaurant in the corner of the hall we decided to try to eat something. It was Isko reastaurant. Being welcomed with honest smiles by the Owner and Waitress we ordered some tapas and other small meals, based on advise from nice and helpfull Waitress from Brasil. Food and wine were so delicious that we decided to go the beach and then come back for a dinner again, to Isko. The Owner proposed, that we can choose and buy anything in the market and bring it to the restaurant, so they can prepare the meal for us. So we did so. We bought some fresh octopus and squids. Lady, who sold us these great and fresh products brought it directly to the restaurant. After few hours of laziness in the beach we came back to the restaurant. Chief approached us just to inform, that when the octopus is cooked it shrinks so it may looks like smaller than when it was fresh. For us it was obvious, but very nice of Chief. Whole dinner was absolutely great and delicious. Everything was tasty, nicely served and fresh. Another bottle of great white dry wine landed on our table to complete whole great experience! Perfect, affordable meal, friendly and smiling staff and great atmosphere of chilled market in a middle of hot Matosinhos convinced us to come here again tomorrow, just before our flight back home. My daughter and I had the privilege of having our first formal meal at Isko. What a pleasure! You can buy the fresh fish at the fish mart annexed to the restaurant. Anything from Octopus to shelled fish. Isko Chef Manuel took us to his recommended fish spot to choose our fish. Manuel cooked the fish to perfection. He filleted and seasoned the fish exquisitely. The skin had the perfect crispness, served with cabbage (Bok Choy), coriander rice, small potatoes and bread with two tantalizing spreads. I even ordered the cheese cake. Everything was superb. The owner, Filipe, prepared the delicious cheesecake. Our servers were Milena and Talia. I highly recommend this spot. There are a lot of different restaurants around the market that can cook the fish for you, but I highly recommend this one. They are very upfront about their pricing. It is 7€ per person to cook any fish you get from the market. The market personnel will clean it for you and bring it to the restaurant. Note that the market is open in the morning but closes at 1:00pm for an afternoon break. So go before that to get the fresh seafood.
