O Varino — Restaurant in Nazaré

I wish i could give this place 10 stars. We have been to Porto and Lisbon on the same trip but our dinner at O Varino still by far was the best in Portugal. They make very good and fresh seafood. Lovely people serving. Prices are not expensive. Just overall a very honest, humble place. It’s all about the quality of the food, not the fluff. Seafood rice, boiled shrimps, sardines, clams (bulhão pato not the spanish version) and sea bream were amazing, very much recommended. I also recommend trying their brandy and flan for desert. It’s hard to believe how some people are complaining on the reviews about them running out of sardines etc. I happen to think that these people don’t know how...

The waiter picked the order in about 15 mins though we were the only clients. Afterwards we waited about 1h for the food. They only accept cash payments which is not visible anywhere and for 2021 it is a big surprise. If you only accept cash in a card era make it clear in the menu le advise the waiters to let the clients know. They charged the "couvert" and when we told the waiter we did not touch it he replied "Not even a bread ? " . After paying they gave wrong...

Authentic Portuguese and super tasty food.. Fresh, perfect mix of spices. The portions are more than what you can expect. The atmosphere will definitely catch your attention , it has its charm , super clean..... very attentive host, and if you are a music person..you will get to hear some great old gold numbers at the background.. overall amazing experience.. just be prepared to have some cash, as this is the only mode of payment...
