A Capoeira — Restaurant in Porto

Having walked all day, we were famished, tired, and fancied something a bit traditional. This little restaurant is set back from the main tourist thoroughfare but given its solid reviews, we decided to give it a try. It was just opening, so we went in, to find tables already occupied. We hadn’t booked, but they gave us a table.

The restaurant is very traditional, and my guess, based on the decor, is that it has been around for a long time. Service is VERY efficient, and friendly! We had a salad and Portuguese sausage for starters. Both decent. Our mains were both fish (given where we were!). Again, both decent. We had an Alvarinho as the wine list is very limited. It too was decent.

The restaurant is not going to set the world alight in culinary terms, but the food is traditional, solid, good value...

I would give this place 0 reviews only because of the experience with one of the server. Me and my husband travelled all the way because we heard about this place from a friend. We reached 10 minutes after the place opened and when we reached we saw all the tables had reserved signs .. understandable but when we asked the server he said he will have a table for us in half an hour , he neither wrote our name just kind of brushed us off but we trusted him and decided to wait for half an hour … when we can back after half an hour … he said half an hour more he still did not take our name… again to brush us off.. for us it would have been totally fine if he said it is not possible today … but the sheer ignorance is something we did not...

This restaurant was an amazing experience!!! I came here on a friend’s recommendation, and another friend was also there so just because of that was a place for me to go. We had the grilled chouriço as starter as well as a croquete. We also had grilled cod fish and the octopus rice with octopus fillets. The waiter was kind enough to ask us if we wanted to split the food and as we did, he brought us first the rice with the octopus and then the codfish. Everything was amazing the octopus was unbelievable. We had the great house’s white green wine!

We also had Natas do céu for desert. They were not great.

The service is great! Looking forward to...
