A True Hidden Gem in Porto!
After a string of uninspired tourist spots, we came across Firmeza 129—a small, unmarked house with a yellow front that caught our eye. Intrigued by the handwritten menu in the window, we stepped inside and were welcomed by Sandra, the warm and passionate owner. She shared her philosophy of using locally sourced ingredients and focusing on lighter fare rather than the traditionally heavy Portuguese food.
There’s no set menu—Sandra simply asked what we’d like, and everything from the fresh bread to the local honey and compote was crafted with care. She even shared a special cheese, offering it with the same love and attention she puts into all her food.
What truly made this experience special was Sandra’s hospitality. Not only did she make us feel at home, but when we mentioned our upcoming trip to the Douro Valley, she went out of her way to give us recommendations, even calling a friend to confirm the name of a place.
Our only regret was not having the time to return for dinner and try the wine or the day’s specials. Firmeza 129 is a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic, thoughtful experience.
Looking forward to lunch at Firmeza 129 next time...

Sandra welcomed us in and even stored our suitcases as our Airbnb was not ready for us. She served us a delicious home cooked meal that soothed us after a long night of travel. Everything is homemade. Her coffee was the best we had in Portugal! We ate at this amazing restaurant 3 or 4 times. Sandra and her mother even made us dinner one evening . We were exhausted and had hurried back to eat there before they closed. She had no hot food prepared but told us she would put something together! She brought us olives, oil and bread to start and then a wonderful pork steak meal, all just for us! We sampled many of her cakes and baked goods and all were exceptional! The service and kindness of Sandra and her mother will forever be one of our best memories of Portugal. Please take the time and visit this wonderful little restaurant. You will be...
