I was super hyped to come here because it was mentioned several times on food guides to Oporto. However, I was less then impressed.
The main reason you would go here is to eat a Cachorrino. Basically, a hot dog but instead of a sausage it is super tender meat.
It is toasted bread with meat and cheese topped with glazed butter. This is a very good alternative to a hot dog and tastes much better. However, at $5 for one it seems quite expensive.
The price either comes from the quality of the ingredients or the fact that tourist pay extra.
Honestly, with the taste of the toasted bread, the cheese, and butter my taste buds couldn't tell if it was high quality or not. I have made grilled cheese sandwiches in a panini press that tasted the same. So I'm guessing the price is for the tourists.
While it was good, the price made it a little off putting. Go there once to tell your friends you did, and then just make one at home for yourself.
While sitting at the bar you see the entire process. From how they tenderize the meat, and the order of when they toast the bread, introduce the meat...
Read moreArrived 1 minute before 12 and so found a table on a safurday lunch. Fill up quite quickly. You can see from my pictures how it looked when I seated and how it looked 15 mim after. At 12h30 there were already queues outside.
🌭 Cachorro especial (special means it comes with a francesinha sauce). The sauce comes quite nice otherwise would have been to dry due the bread being slightly toasted. Really nice smaller and simple alternative to a franceainha.
Also had a half serving of 🥩🧄 Bife ao alho, arrived swimming in a still boiling hot oil (too much oil for my taste). It came as the name of it with huge amount garlic! which I personally like, and you can feel safe no blood sucking creature will not dare to get close to you for a day or two 🧛♂️ No desert after such a big 'brunch'....
Read moreWas really looking forward to try the Francesinha and the hotdog based on the rave reviews but was really disappointed on the day. Super busy and packed so had to queue outside when the rain was coming in and out. Ordered a Francesinha and hotdog with some fries. The fries were admittedly very tasty - well salted and extra crispy. The famous Francesinha was ok, very hearty but realistically too much for one person to stomach. Unfortunately, about 40 minutes after we ordered, the hotdog never came despite asking our server multiple times where our food was. On top of that, they only accept cash contrary to what some of the google reviews say so had to withdraw from the nearby ATM with ridiculous fees. Really wanted to like...
