How fortunate we felt staying at the GA Palace Hotel, where the staff are amazingly warm and kind. I can truly say that the staff really makes the difference in this award-winning hotel!! Your staff always were accommodating and helpful during our stay, we have felt very cared for during our visit to Porto Portugal.||The reception desk was incredibly efficient at check-in and there are 2 mid-sized elevators that whisk you quickly to your floor. Our third floor room was spacious and stylish, it had all the amenities of home (hot water kettle, coffee maker, beverage station, mini fridge, high quality linens, etc) and was so incredibly quiet, I rarely heard hallway noise. ||Temperature control was via an electronic thermostat that allowed for precise room comfort setting. The air conditioner was efficient and quiet and blackout curtains, ceiling to floor, allowed for very dark sleeping conditions. ||The beds were incredibly comfortable, my friend loved the extra comforter she put on her bed since she sleeps better in a cooler room. Numerous pillow choices made it possible to support good restful sleep. ||The ~50 inch Samsung TV was disguised as a mirror and it offered all the streaming options like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video and the ability to add Apps. We watched a few movies and TV shows while in Porto and this TV functioned flawlessly during our visit.||And now for the best part of my review--The Food!! Our breakfasts were really out of this world! We were quickly ushered into the restaurant every morning by cheerful staff, drink orders taken, and then we could help ourselves to the most sumptuous choices for breakfast! It truly was a delightful way to start our day! There were wonderful hot dishes (scrambled eggs, bacon, gorgeous Portugese sausages, mushrooms and baked beans), a bread station with automatic toaster and sliced breads and rolls, cold options included many sliced meats and cheeses, and hard boiled eggs. On a center serving island there were many types of prepared and whole fruits, cold cereal and seed assortments, honey and jelly, yogurt and fruit parfaits and last, but certainly not least were the wide selection of Portuguese pastries. The Pastel de Nata pastry were lovely and you could sample the pastry assortment to your heart's content! ||You could also request cooked to order Eggs Benedict with Hollandaise sauce or an omelet cooked to order. I so enjoyed the chef's creations, the presentation was beautiful and in all honesty, if you did not find something good to eat for breakfast, well that's on you! ||We had dinner one evening in the dining room, we both ordered fish & shellfish options and the food was excellent. We also ordered room service a couple evenings, staying with their pasta dishes and Caprese Salad and they were very good as well. I give high praise to the chefs, kitchen help and wait staff, they all did their jobs so well! Please know it was a joy to eat the food you had prepared and served to us daily during our visit to Porto! ||This visit to Porto and the GA Palace Hotel has been exceptional and truly special. Read moreTo be fair and balanced. The room ambience was good and Hugo in the lobby Mr. was very enthusiastic. Gave us a lot of help, friendly staff, but the MANAGER lady who checked me in was very unprofessional as well as impatient, which became the biggest regret of the stay. I booked the hotel for one night on Ctrip and at check-in I took the initiative to show a screenshot of the Ctrip order as well as verbally informing the lady in English that I had already booked the hotel on the Chinese software. (This can be evidenced by the hotel pulling the CCTV footage of the time). But unfortunately, I booked under the wrong name, although the email and cell phone number was correct. But the person never called my email as well as cell phone to confirm the trip. The front desk created their own without my permission booking order and charged me almost 2 times the price of Ctrip. I have never downloaded booking and never booked on booking, after I raised my objection, the lady at the front desk just said, it is you who booked the booking order, and even we can see your bank card tail number on the booking order, but in fact, the front desk knew my bank card information because I took my physical card to make the payment, and during this time the other party viewed my tail number and security code. had my tail number as well as security code. After I expressed that I never booked through booking reservation without my permission and should have paid the cost on Ctrip instead of double the cost. And asked the hotel and booking to confirm who created the order and when, and asked the other party to provide appropriate screenshots, was rudely refused. The hotel side can't produce any evidence at this point, and I can reasonably suspect that the hotel created the order for me on its own, via booking, without permission, in order to charge a higher room rate. And the lady at the front desk had a bad attitude afterwards and lied repeatedly. For the Ctrip platform, this move by the hotel hurts the interests of the partner platforms, prying Ctrip's customers to other platforms. For me personally, I have suffered an unmitigated disaster resulting in me overpaying almost double the price. I reserve the right to expose this matter on various platforms as well as advance litigation by my attorney. I hope the hotel can give me a reasonable explanation. Read moreThis is our first trip to Porto and we’re grateful to be staying at the GA Palace. Normally, I write reviews following our visits, but my husband and I are so pleased with our accommodations, we cannot contain our enthusiasm to share our thoughts with other discerning people considering lodging options in Porto. Having been proprietors of a similar, but significantly smaller business(we used to own and operate an upscale inn on Martha’s Vineyard) we greatly appreciate and value the attention to details and appointments of furnishings and amenities in our room as well as throughout the hotel. Kudos to the proprietors for their thoughtful and meticulous vision- you’ve created a beautiful atmosphere and environment where guests can make unforgettable experiences . We found the pool, the Turkish bath, the dry sauna, and the therapeutic wellness center where messages can be booked to be unexpected extras which have made our stay even more relaxing. Regarding the onsite restaurant, we’re truly amazed how the chef and the cooking and service staffs orchestrate a symphony of incredible breakfasts, afternoon light delectables, and superb dinners. We’re also grateful for the effort made to accommodate our dietary restrictions as vegetarian and vegan. Above all, however, we know how important it is to have consumer-oriented employees, and honestly we’re very impressed with the dedicated employees at this hotel. Everyone, we’ve met, is genuinely compassionate, kind, and helpful- they’re always smiling, warmly welcoming us when return from exploring the city, checking in with us to make sure that we’re having a pleasant stay, and reminding us that they’re here if there’s anything they can do to make our stay better. GA Palace is truly fortunate to have such a stellar staff.
