HP Sushi — Restaurant in Porto

Disclaimer: big fan of japanese cuisine & culture. Can't really recommend this place. I came here because of the high rating costumers gave, expecting some sort of japanese experience. Yes the service is lovely, sure the food looks great, is fresh and appears creative. But the atmosphere is pretty odd, very silent and quite boring, trying hard to feel Japanese fused with something else but ends up plain awkward. And the food simply lacks any japanese taste. Again, either rolls or gunkan felt like a try-hard mixture of high-end fusion kitchen that tastes like nothing really. The absolute biggest disappointment was the poor attempt at pork ramen. Cannot call it ramen actually - the soup is utterly bland and definitely does not contain any pork like ramen should, the noodles feel like instant-noodles instead of quality udon or buckwheat, and the egg was a sad hard-boiled egg instead of mouth-watering ajitama. Pork cutlets on top were tasty but that's about it. Also no ramen toppings are a available to liven things up a little, and I had to ask for soy sauce to dip the sushi in. Disappointing experience if you are looking to enjoy japanese...

American here - HP Sushi was really nice. Fresh sushi, great sangria. I wouldn't say they blew me away but I've had sushi maybe 100 times before? HP Sushi was a good, affordable option for sushi.

The sangria was made there in front of us. We ordered the 22-piece selection for the two of us and were happy with it. The salmon nigiri was incredible. The other pieces on the plate were very generous but sometimes lacked...something. Vinegar? Salt? I couldn't tell. The sushi rice was almost too sweet.

The people commenting that this place blew their minds, or that the sushi options were the most creative they've ever seen...we got salmon, tuna, and white fish in various forms - the same staples you get at nearly any sushi restaurant around the world. The salmon was exceptional. The rest were good!

Skip on the veggie gyoza. They were pretty tasteless. You can pay by card. Get in before 8PM on Friday if you want a...

I’d like to start off by saying the food here was fantastic! Really enjoyed each dish and I’m happy to have stumbled upon this gem.

However, I cannot rank this higher for the following: Some sort of system issue where our order didn’t get recorded and so the food came out really late Once the food came out we saw it wasn’t what we ordered. We asked for the option with hot and special rolls and were given the traditional. The waitress explained that they didn’t want us to wait longer and hence why they gave us the traditional. We would have been happy to wait for what we ordered, had They just asked They charged us for the higher priced traditional dish (that we didn’t order). I thought this was quite odd. To charge us for something that we didn’t order or agree to

Overall, the dishes were amazing, and the salmon tataki cannot be missed. Food 5/5, service 4/5 for all...
