The In Situ apartments are modern and the older photos do not do it justice so I would recommend checking it out on Hotels.com website for up to date information. They are excellently situated within a short walk of the Metro which goes directly from the airport to the City Centre. The Metro is modern, clean and very easy to navigate where you want to go - I wouldn't even think about bothering with a taxi unless you arrive very late at night. I also wouldn't bother paying a lot more for river view accommodation on the Ribeiro, unless you really want to be in the centre of the nightlife. As it is you can always walk down to the riverside from here, enjoy the bars and restaurants and then return for a good night's sleep! The main tourist sites are within easy walking distance of the apartment. Staff were young, friendly and spoke excellent English. We were delayed on arrival due to someone taking our suitcase from the carousel at the airport(!) but the young lady on duty was very welcoming and helpful when we eventually arrived. The outside of the house looks dowdy but everything inside is bright and modern. We had an apartment at the back looking out onto a grassed courtyard area and it was quiet and peaceful. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are air conditioned. The cooking facilities looked good but we mostly ate out as there are plenty of restaurants close by. Porto is a changing city with many houses being restored but there is still plenty of character to see. For a great view of the city climb the Torre do Clerigos. I would love to go back and I would recommend the In...
Read moreThe apartment was on the 4th floor and I had requested (about 9 months before my visit when I booked the apartment) a low floor due to a recent foot operation. The next day they offered me a room on the 1st floor in the block next door. The room offered was extremely depressing so I declined. The breakfast, (served in a cafe about 1Km away) was modest with bottled, sugar-laden 'juice'. The fresh fruit salad was quite good. The small cheese and ham roll was perfectly edible. The custard tart was OK. The coffee was good. The apartment is quite a hike from the river front and up a steep hill. It's excellent if you're trying to improve your cardiovascular fitness. The room itself was ill-thought-out, with no sockets within reasonable reach of the bed and certainly not long enough to be sitting in bed with a typical iPhone charger. There were no bedside lights. For those lying on the wall side of the bed, the TV was conveniently situated out of sight, behind a half-wall. The 'terrace' was rather neglected and sad, lacking any plants - the only feature being the exposed air-conditioning unit. The view from the terrace afforded an uninterrupted view of the local shopping mall's multi-story car park. I...
Read moreLocated 1 block off Rua Caterina these units offer the advantage of being central (10-20 min walk to most of central Porto) but offering a quiet setting. ||There are 2 sister properties, 168 & 178, operated out of the same office at 168. ||The units are large, modern and clean. They offer a small kitchen, eating area, sitting area and a comfortable queen (not double) bed. They are very secure. In Toronto or New York they would be upscale. ||Diego, who checked us in, was very helpful with directions, suggestions and getting us oriented. ||We would definitely return when back in the Porto area....
