I dined at La Ricotta for dinner during my stay in Porto and I am so glad I did. The restaurant is a bit above my normal price range being a poor backpacker but I am so glad I splurged as everything was incredible. I ordered the prosciutto salad and the duck thigh risotto. The salad was great but my god the duck risotto was mind blowing. It was such an amazing combination of flavours. The duck was so tender it was falling off the bone and the risotto was rich and delicious. My waitress was the lovely Patricia who I fell in love with as soon as I saw her. She was very beautiful but also funny, kind and attentive. She spoke excellent english which is good for me being an ignorant Aussie with no grasp of Portuguese. The decor of La Ricotta is very cosy as well with old stone walls and a nice wooden bar. Over dining at Ricotta was a fantastic experience I cannot recommend it highly enough and I will definitely be visiting again if I come back to Porto. 5 stars, 10 out of 10,...
Read moreThe reviews and recommendations for the restaurant were all so good we booked it, but I was disappointed. The menu was over complicated with about 10 or more ingredients in each dish, but when they were presented they were not as described. Whoever wrote the menu must have taken a course in creative writing. The food was very nice.
We ordered the bread selection starter for €4, they offered some olive oil and charged us €4 and we also got some butter, 2 breakfast pads charged at €1.50, so the total bread selection cost €9.50!
The service was very pretentious, the waiter talked up everything. I was not impressed and neither were some of the other diners around us.
I am sure there are many people who would appreciate this restaurant and would like the service, but it was not for me. I like a restaurant where the staff are engaging and the atmosphere is good, this was not that type...
Read moreDont come here if you are after good salads and more healthy food. I would have given this restaurant 4 stars if it hadn't met my expectations about that Italian restaurants don't focus on salads or vegetables. You can already tell that from the menu when it says in several places that they use microwaved vegetables. "micro vegetables". It sounds cheap and low-quality! What's the deal with even upscale restaurants not being able to make salads these days??? I ordered bacalhau, which was okay, but it only had spinach as the vegetable. My friend ordered a salad, and it cost about 15 euros, but it had only arugula, mozzarella cheese (a lot), and ham. What kind of salad is it if it only has arugula??? A real salad should have various different greens and vegetables, along with good seasonings and oils. Why do you restaurateurs often fail with salads? They are...
