Tupi — Restaurant in Porto

Stopped in for breakfast just after 9 on a Wednesday. I wish cafes like this (and the culture of it) were more common in NYC, but New Yorkers are always just Go, Go, Go! My family and I had a nice leisurely breakfast and the prices were inexpensive.

I like that all of the pastries/sandwiches are in the display case because then you can truly see what you want to eat. I had some sort of ham and cheese panini. They use some kind of egg bread, which I didn’t love because it has a sweetness to it, but it wasn’t bad overall. They give you a card to order at the counter and they will heat up the food and bring it to your table. For drinks, you order at the table, and you use your card as well. At the end, you bring this card to the register, which has tallied up everything you ordered....

This place will forever be marked as one of my favourite on google maps in Porto. It's central, amazingly cheap and they have so many delicious pastries which are baked on the spot. I can only recommend you to try the Bolo do Rei, Pasteis, Tosta Mista, and all sort of pastries they have. I was literally pointing at them and just taking a piece each. I am absolutely amazed at the high quality of Porto coffee shops that abound in the city Centre. Pastelaria Tupi is one of them, located next door to The Gate hotel. Open 6 days a week from early morning, this bakery cum coffee shop offers the freshest pastries and some great coffee too. I had the American breakfast option, which included toast with lovely ham and mouthwatering cheese, an amazing Nutella croissant, cappuccino and freshly squeezed orange juice.
