Booked through hotels com after liking the look of the hotel and reading the reviews and we were not disappointed.||Upon arrival we received a warm welcome, and as it was only 10am, freshened up and left our bags in storage. ||The hotel is ideally situated a couple of minutes walk from Sao Bento metro station. Depending on the route taken, a 15 - 20 minute walk downhill through the streets to the river, but I'd say longer on the way back due to the hills.||Prior to arrival I emailed advising it was my Husbands birthday and they arranged for a large slice of cake and bottle of fizz to be delivered to the room.||I booked a junior suite and we were assigned room number 304, over looking the street, but with double windows we barely heard any road noise.||The room itself was huge, you entered into a small entrance hall with the bathroom on the left featuring a large slipper style bath and sink, then two doors, one with toilet and bidet one with a large waterfall shower. ||The bedroom area was large with a very comfortable King Size bed, large mirror and TV, being a junior suite there was then a two seater sofa and large desk and chair with two huge windows that opened up, one wirh a further external window for air flow. ||For a room of its size the hanging area was quite small with only two deep drawers for clothing storage - however being only a short trip was ample for us. I agree with other reviewers about the lighting, its a light dark with no lighting above the large mirror for putting on makeup but again, didn't bother us this just added to the charm.||If I had one comment about the bathroom, it would be to install a shower gel bottle next to the bath as I didn't travel with shower gel as the hotel has the posh rituals bubbles, so had to pump it into my hand if using the bath tub. ||There was also a safe and mini fridge, and a bottle of water provided daily. We also came back each day to a variety of different snacks including a fruit platter, chocolates etc - this was a nice touch. ||Our rate included breakfast, buffet style hot options were fried and scrambled eggs, bacon, beans, hash browns and mini frankfurter style sausages. There was also yoghurt, fruit, croissants, pain au chocolate, bread, doughnuts, cake, juices, prosecco and teas and coffees are ordered and bought to the table, plenty of choice and tasty!||We visited the small restaurant / bar area once for lunch. Husband had pizza - lots of toppings, I had the Carbonara, both were nice and reasonably priced.||All of the staff we encountered were extremely friendly, even when my husband asked for a corkscrew to open a small bottle of port he'd bought to have in the room - am sure we're not the first to ask lol.||We loved this hotel, would highly recommend to anyone visiting Porto and if we're ever back in the city we'd definitely...
Read morePorto Bay Hotel was the first hotel we stayed at for the beginning leg of our three week journey in Portugal/Spain this July 2025. As soon as we entered the hotel, we were blown away by the cleanliness and welcoming staff. Check-in was a breeze and Diego, who is a very friendly front desk staff helped carry our luggage upstairs. Margarida (I think) checked us in and told us this would be the best hotel we stayed at for our trip! And we are so happy to say she was right! As we ended our trip back at this hotel, we were beyond grateful that we chose Porto Bay! We opted for breakfast each day for our stay and it was so convenient that the hotel breakfast was located on the main level. There were an assortment of items and what was most amazing was that they catered for gluten friendly options and even had vegan croissants that were beyond delicious. You could also find your basic American staples, a variety of eggs, fruit, breads, as well as your English beans and meats and of course the Portuguese desserts. The hotel restaurant, Il Basillico, was even open for lunch and dinner. We dined here in the evening twice and it did not disappoint. The staff were beyond friendly. Anna was lovely. My husband absolutely loved the martinis at the bar. The spaghetti Bolognese was divine as were the pizzas, we highly recommend dining at the restaurant in the evening.
The location of this hotel is so central, within five minutes you are at the Bõlhao market. Sao Bento station is a short walk. Lots of shopping and restaurants in the nearby area and super central to many of the great tourist attractions.
This hotel deserves a five star rating. It was everything we wanted and we’re so happy that we started our vacation here and also ended it back here. The only thing it’s missing is a pool but hopefully by the next time we return there might be something of that sort to help cool down the hot summer days. We look forward to returning back to Porto Bay Teatro one day. Thank you for an...
Read moreWe had no idea when we chose and booked this hotel that it would turn out to be just perfect for our seven night stay in this beautiful city…||Lovely smiles greeted us on check in after the taxi we’d arranged vis the hotel dropped us at the door. Every member of staff we spoke to at Reception was so friendly and efficient, every member of staff in the restaurant and bar was exemplary. The hotel knows how to train its staff and how to get the best out of them.||We’d chosen a Tribune Room, and from some previous reviews on Tripadvisor I’d been worried that the room would be dark with no natural light. I messaged ahead and asked for a room on a higher floor, and we were delighted with our spacious, quiet, and bright room on the fourth floor. No view, but then again we hadn’t expected one and we weren’t disappointed.||We were given complimentary drinks vouchers for the bar and for Basilico Restaurant where we dined on night one. A beautiful evening… We were given complimentary dessert vouchers for the five star sister hotel, Portobay Flores, which we used and had an equally beautiful evening.||Breakfast every morning, served from 7-10.30, was exceptional. The best we’ve ever had in a four star hotel. So much choice- hot food, different breads and pastries, sweet and savoury, with fruits and yoghurts and other local delicacies. Oh, and the best mini pasteis de nata ever!||The location of the hotel is perfect- near enough to everything, and just that little bit out of the main streets which can become crowded and noisy.||The room was an excellent space to return to towards mid afternoon when we had a siesta and left rejuvenated after a shower. Brilliant too, by the way.||We can’t fault the hotel. We kept pinching ourselves, thinking how lucky we’d been to select it from all the hotels we could have chosen.||Thank you to everyone for making our stay so enjoyable. It is definitely a trip...
